Letting your friends dictate your hobby.

Just so long as you one shot his HQ with Pollux str 10 fist at initiative you win the game you dont even need to actually win so long as you turn his prized models head into a fine pink mist

In one game with him, we played out the Calth Legendary mission where you have red pawning Daemons or something, and Polux killed a Bloodthirster three times in 7 turns.

So yeah, Polux for Emperor.

Actually both parties could be considered at fault. Compromise is the key here, you should both be able to play the game you want. In any situation like this you should discuss the sorts of force that you want to run and figure out how to play a game that you both enjoy, unless you are playing competitively then the gloves could be considered 'off'. Gotta say it saddens me to see comments saying that this guy is just a cry baby and needs to man up, tourney play yes but fun and fluff driven games between mates that's just not the spirit of the game.

Now to weather the backlash.

Hardly.

It's his fault.

Outside of everything you wrote, it's just a game, and a social contract. I would have serious red flags playing with someone who is prioritizing fluff and 'what the game says I can do' over friendship and the enjoyment of the hobby for both parties. It's definitely a two way street and I'm glad MakoBoy88 just talked to his friend about it.

What Legion is he using? That may help a lot. He could always check out the Tactics section on here to get a good handle on both his Legion and dealing with yours. There's a counter for everything, you both have access to the same stuff, and honestly Land Raiders aren't even all that scary in 30K compared to other things / multiple counters to them.

Without wanting to step on any toes here, I think claiming that using land raider spam lists for every game is fine because it's fluffy is a bit unfair. Not everybody had a land raider parked out front. Could you maybe not mix up the list a bit every few games?

I remember when 5th edition Space Wolves first appeared and my 3rd edition army went top tier overnight. After 3 games I sat down with my friends and told them not to worry as I was toning the list down.

There has to be give and take on both sides. Otherwise there won't be anybody to play against. I admit GW don't really help things with their take whatever attitude these days.

Lads please read the whole thread?

I literally didn't have any other models. That's the problem.

If I had 60 infantry models and recon squads I would have happily taken them. But I don't.

But he does and doesn't. That's the issue.

But it's sorted now :)

He said he didn't really have the resources to expand his army further at the time. Im sorry but if a friend of mine who has all the models ever is telling me I have to buy new models to accommodate his playstyle... yeah, no, that's not a thing that's happening.

@Ishagu, so you played against the weakest army in 40k and beat him with some of the cheesiest things in the game?

Also congrats op on doing the most sensible thing and just talking to him about it. However I now need to see a batrep with imperial fists.

I'm clearly a bit late to this conversation, and this is quite a nightmare scenario. Glad you've been able to sort it out, but I have to admit, I don't think I'd have been quite as kind in your shoes...

Did you manage to get a reason as to why he wants (wanted) to spam infantry with Erebus? If he was doing it for fluff reasons, and wants to carry on like that, have you considered writing special scenarios in which Infantry might be more at an advantage, but which would still allow you to play your LRs?

If he hasn't got such a reason, have you considered playing games at less than 2500 points ? At 1500 points, it starts to get really difficult to put some of the bigger toys in there (which still includes LRs), so infantry + erebus might be in a slightly better position.

Otherwise, as someone suggested earlier in the thread, have you tried playing each other's lists/models ? It could both give you an insight into what the other's army is like. For instance, you might discover that it's really fun to play masses of marines, but he might find that you aren't playing in the cheesiest way possible, but simply trying to use the units you have access to.

Fortunately, I've never had to be in your situation, but in a way, I have been on the opposite side. One of my main gaming buddis used to play Necrons as his main army, but I kept getting tabled by turn 4, despite hardly denting one of his vehicles or units. Eventually, it was a bit upsetting for me, because, despite varying my list builds, and him actually giving me tips on how to deal with stuff, I still didn't manage anything. Same with our tyranid player. Eventually, we changed armies for a game, and he saw just how nasty his army was. That's when he started playing orks, but that's only because he found them fun, and we all had a lot more fun playing together, including him. However, we would never have dreamed of asking him to buy new models, let alone a new army, so I find it a bit unfair on his part.
