CaptainStabby
So, I'm simultaneously working on 30k Wolves as well as reworking my giant bucket of 40k guys and I'm trying to get the most out of my modeling/painting time and thinking about repurposing as much as I can, especially with BaC having so many PA bodies. Right now I'm seriously considering either just using the red wolf head on the left plate for everyone, as I'm pretty sure that's what is going to happen with the FW wolves, and also so all my guys don't look like they belong to Ragnar's GC, it's a pretty clear differentiation. My other option is, I just picked up a bunch of Bran's GC marking pads from shapeways, so I'm also contemplating everyone having that marking and popping the wolf head in here and there. The upside of that option is that it can go on either shoulder without being "backwards". Ugh, paralysis through analysis. Any thoughts would be helpful brothers. Valerian
Yeah, I'd go with those Shapeway pads, but I love me some bas relief pads. I've used them throughout my army. codyrstuart
Hot damn! I dont have to worry about freehanding Bran's symbol! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320050-musings-on-gcchapter-markings/#findComment-4327372 Share on other sites
mactire
Would love to see some of those pads on a mini when you get them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320050-musings-on-gcchapter-markings/#findComment-4327381 Share on other sites
CaptainStabby
Hot damn! I dont have to worry about freehanding Bran's symbol! Thought you'd dig that, they were pretty much what I had been waiting on for the same thing. I have a squad full of em in hand and some of the boarding shields, so Im thinking a boarding team is in order, or at least one dude. My one gripe is that the interior of the pad isnt as deep as it needs to be to set properly on a marine shoulder, which is weird because his other pads I have got don't have that problem. Dunno. Yeah, I'd go with those Shapeway pads, but I love me some bas relief pads. I've used them throughout my army. So... Company marking as opposed to generic Wolf head? codyrstuart
Well seeing that I may have to do some major cuts to take some of the old pads off, the shallow socket shouldn't be a problem. CaptainStabby
It seems like its only on the heresy era stuff. The 7 gen pads have the right depth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320050-musings-on-gcchapter-markings/#findComment-4327434 Share on other sites

Remember, that they still had Great Company markings, even back during the Heresy/Legion era, so there's no reason to think that one of those ancient Wolf Lords wouldn't have also picked The Blooded Hunter as his Sigil (I think that's what Bran's is called, of the top of my head). CaptainStabby
That's what I was thinking too, the only thing that had me questioning it was ALL of the art we have seen has had the red wolf head marking. Not to say that might not change, but it's what we've seen. Gemini
Don't forget, the first Space Wolves specific model by GW had the Wolf Head shoulder pad :) http://www.mrackley.com/swcpt.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320050-musings-on-gcchapter-markings/#findComment-4327523 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Judging from the WIP pads which FW showed at the weekender, they are being incredibly lazy and going for Ragnars Great company marking as the legion symbol. Just painting it red. It makes great sense as people can buy the pads to have ornate Wolf Guard for the 40K armies, plus Ragnars is the most popular by far. I just wish they would use the RT era markings for the Space Wolves legion. I am quite surprised they haven't done the wolf that stalks the stars also, as this was Russ' mark. Will try to look out the pictures from the weekender later, or if you go back a few pages you might find it (6-7th feb datewise). CaptainStabby
Yeah, I figured that was going to be the goto, and tbh as I said, it's kinda part of my motivation to repurpose guys across both armies. That said, I have literally waited DECADES for proper Blooded Hunter company markings.
