How do you get your Fenrisian Wolves?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

With the new formation I'm more tempted than ever by Fenrisian Wolves but I just balk at the price. For £30 I can get 15 Space Wolf marines (Blood Claws box) with a mass of optional bits or 10 wolves with pretty much fixed poses. Both in terms of points and complexity of models Fenrisian Wolves seem absurdly overpriced. Are there drcent 3rd party alternatives or do you just swallow the GW price?

I buy them from a retailer that gives 20% off GW prices (FLGS). At that price, they're not bad. I also just buy 1-2 boxes every couple of months to spread out the 'pain' a bit. I have about 50 painted so far (I had them before the new codex for use in the Apoc formation).

I've been using DarkSphere for about 6-8 months now and have no complaints whatsoever (added bonus: 25% off RRP when you order online). I also live abroad so shipping will be cheaper for you.

Alternatively, cheaper monopose wolves:

And cheaper, less dynamic wolves:

I do find it interesting that there doesn't seem to be a single company out there that makes decent looking wolves.

I bought GW wolves from Dark Sphere too, Need to purchase a few more to increase the size of my pack. Cyber wolves are a nightmare too as you can only get them directly from GW.

What Carrick said...

Before there were official models for Fenrisian Wolves I used to pick up the 'Wolves of Badru' from Heroscape to use instead. They're probably not much cheaper than buying the GW ones. They're quite a bit smaller too. I still use them but as a way of easily distinguishing 'wargear' wolves as opposed to 'pack' wolves.

Thanks, I didn't realise you could get thr goblin wolfrider wolves still. I think I'll have to get a couple of packs of those and mix in a few "proper" Fenrisian Wolves for variety. I still don't understand the GW pricing except perhaps "because we can".

I don't think I've ever met anyone who uses the actual cyberwolf model on the tabletop. Everyone around here (including myself) just paints the fen. wolves a different color for cyberwolves.

I bought two. Painted one as is and cut the second one in thirds. I merged those thirds with fenrisian wolves to get three more cyber wolves!

I bought 6, I kept 1 original but found a really quick and easy way to combine each CW with a FW to create 2 CW. They still stand out as CW which was important to me as I have about 40 Wolves in total. I do plan to buy a load more so I can run 75 for Wulfkin

I always use Canis in my Wolves, Furious Charge with rerolling to hit first turn is deadly.
