Salamanders Tactical Support Teams?

A quick question before I do a buy, having both sold the last of my Tau this morning and found out yesterday that I'm being fired ( http://heresy30k.invisionzone.com/public/style_emoticons/default/mellow.png): are tactical support teams worth it for Salamanders, or are they basically rendered obsolete by pyroclasts? And, if I were going to bring a support team, what would be the best armament? Meltaguns because flame projector melta function is kind of weak? Plasma, because it frees up meltaguns to focus on heavy vehicles and provides an answer to terminators? Volkite because it's just awesome?

I've been in the "pyroclasts are obsolete" camp for a while... but that was before I realized that in an environment that includes flare shields, a plethora of AV 14 vehicles, and armored ceramite on almost everything (and anything that didn't have armored ceramite will once everyone realizes that there's a second Salamanders player in our meta), maybe it's best not to rely exclusively on pyroclasts.

What are your thoughts?

Armoured ceramite isn't as common as you'd be lead to believe. Yeah some things may have it but not everything. When it comes down to putting it on a vehicle or giving someone who may need a juicy weapon, juicy weapon tends to win. Because no one takes melta anymore.

I assume if you rock the melta you'd be podding so you can get close enough to bypass flare shields, utilise it's ability to slag stuff

CoF will mean those 10 melta guns are Master-Crafted.

+1 S flamers in a Rhino is a lot of infantry roasting template goodness.

In exchange, you give up the artificer armour and drake cloaks (melta/plas/heat invuln) that Pyros get.

Pyroclasts in no way make support squads obsolete. A flamer squad in a rhino is a fantastically cheap scoring unit in most legions, and they're even more attractive to the Salamanders.  Melta support squads aren't cheap but they can hurt anything with that magic strength 8 and do similarly well in a rhino.  If you get presented with a target that doesn't have armoured ceramite just look at it as a bonus.  Pyroclasts are great and can contribute in many ways, but their inability to take a rhino is a big weakness.
