Theduke08
Greetings brothers, Ive just received my first order of 3d printed shoulder pads from shapeways and let me tell you they are nice. I was afraid they wouldnt have the detail I was expecting but they are pretty darn good. http://www.shapeways.com/shops/popbits?s=0§ion=%7C+Space+Wolves Just thought id drop this here if anyone is looking for an alternative to decals (which I loath). CaptainStabby
Yeah, love this guys work. I've got Wolves, Warhounds and Celestial Lion pads from him. The one drawback I've found is that the heresy era ones don't fit over the marine shoulders very well without grinding them out, or the shoulder down. At least on the heresy era sets I've got. The MK7 pads he has however fit perfectly. Grimtooth
So my main concern with 3d printing has always been the detail, specifically the fine lines created on the flash surfaces from the 3d printing. How mucheck detail is lost due to these print lines? CaptainStabby
Honestly the stuff I have gotten is all super clean. The only ones I have painted up so far are some Celestial Lion ones. I'll try to get some paint on the Blooded Hunter pads I have here within a few days. My biggest problems is that the shoulderpads dont match 100% to GW or FW pads, they are close, but not spot on. This is far more of a problem with the Heresy era stuff than the MK5/6 rimless pad or his MK7 ones, those all pass fairly well. Jarl of Wulfen
I bought the 13th company pads from Shapeways and they are absolutely amazing. Print lines did not cause any loss of details. Here a pic of my guys with the Shapeways pads. Any loss of detail was die to my own inadequate painting skill http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/179039-shapeways-13th-co-pads/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320300-chapter-specific-shoulder-pads/#findComment-4338288 Share on other sites
Theduke08
Here is one of the heresy pattern shoulder pads... They have a slight texture or pattern on large flat surfaces but it can be sanded out. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
Shapeway shoulder pad and breacher shield The pad had some slight...almost finger print look on part of it, but easily manageable http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/kieran_m/HH%20Vlka%20Fenryka/0F36CDE2-67A9-4E0E-B23C-F2A61EF9F7B1_zpswbtstdl8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320300-chapter-specific-shoulder-pads/#findComment-4343002 Share on other sites
Theduke08
Shapeway shoulder pad and breacher shield The pad had some slight...almost finger print look on part of it, but easily manageable Yea those are on almost all of the pads.... Its the lines from the printing. Did you sand yours off or did you just cover them up with some primer and paint? Jarl of Wulfen
@WLK very nice looking! I ordered some shields from them, haven't received them yet though. Did the ones you have, have the hand on the back? Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
@theduke08: I intend to sand them off in the long run, but for this guy (the trial run) I just primed and painted @onyxguard: I ordered the ones with the hand on the back, but may do a set without so I can swap sides. I went the easier route this time as it was my first time Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320300-chapter-specific-shoulder-pads/#findComment-4343026 Share on other sites
