Servant of Dante
I just spent almost 6 hours trying to get some models to be primed black with a brush, after spending time spray priming them. I have 16 (not including backpacks) to a place where I'm reasonably happy, and twelve I haven't touched. It's really infuriating. I don't have that much motivation to paint to begin with, and this isn't helping. I used the same chaos black spray to prime some plastics before and it worked great. I spray the metal models, and I get various levels of partial coverage. I don't want to spray them any more for fear of getting the paint too thick in places. How do I prime my sisters without spending hours with a brush before I can actually start painting? Please keep in mind that I have painted a grand total of 1 model start to finish to date. (That was a good 4 hours of work, and it was a push-fit tactical marine). Thank you. Jalgar
Make sure the model's surface is clean, clean, clean. A good soap and water bath goes a long way to helping primer adhere to metal. Also it may sound over board but after my models are dry I avoid handling them with bare hands until they are primed. Primer sticks best to clean and non oily substrates. Also two or three light passes with the primer have always worked for me. Servant of Dante
Thank you so much. unfortunately, I'll just have to finish the ones I have by hand, but I have another couple dozen models to prime, so your advice is in time for those! I'll post pictures when they are "done" so you can be in awe of my mediocre painting skills with only base paints (I don't feel like cleaning up my grammar) Edit: Yeah I'm done painting for today. Who knows when I'll do more. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320321-priming-metal-models/#findComment-4334794 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Metal is bad for getting the grease from your fingers and such on, so good clean as mentioned is never a bad idea. I also recommend a couple of light passes for the primer :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320321-priming-metal-models/#findComment-4335013 Share on other sites
