New Ulrik hungers for battle!

Hey guys, I just finished assembling and painting the new Ulrik model. I am champing at the bit to get this guy on the tabletop. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I have the old Ulrik but have never used him. I started playing near the end of 6th edition, and the old metal model has never suited my tastes when compared to the rest of the models. Here is my old vs new comparison:

I am a bit unsure of how I want to use him. It seems like he would be best with a pack plasma-toting Grey Hunters, but unless I am foot-slogging, they wouldn't get the second plasma gun for a full pack. How would I get the most out of him? I don't have enough vehicles to make Ironwolves effective, nor enough drop pods for Blackmanes, so I would just be running a Greatpack if I use a WCSF. Would it be better to use a CAD, Wolves unleashed, or CotGW? Is he best sitting back giving PE to some long fangs, or up in the fray?

Very nice paint job! As for usage, he can fit pretty much anywhere. I've used him in a pod with a plasma, plasma pistol and combi-plasma to good effect. He's also great for accompanying Long Fangs and other shooty units. He's great for dropping in the midst of your battle line to buff the packs around him as well. He's very versatile.

You can drop a full plasma pod, position the plasma where you need them, and spread out the rest to "catch" Ulrik coming down in a second pod. Even with a bad scatter, he should be able to disembark 6" and still get his PE bubble in range. It's a little risky, and might leave Ulrik out front to take return fire, but could be what you are looking for.

Thanks! So he sounds like a Reese's peanut butter cup: there's no wrong way. That makes it easy, but tricky at the same time. I was thinking of putting him in a rhino with plasma, combi-plasma GH squad. The plasmas could fire out of the rhino, and then Ulrik can still buff units outside, right?

I have three drop pods, so I was thinking I could drop one or two out in front with a GH pack inside, then haul the rhino up the board. I am skeptical though if I will make it upfield in time to help though. Is Ulrik the type of man to be brash and drop in the first wave, or the cunning type that plays a support role?

I played with the idea to have Ulrik stand back in a unit of Long Fangs or Rapiers together with the Spear of Russ Formation to benefit of his bubble and the Long Fangs getting Monster Hunter. That is plenty of re-rolls you will get from different sources.

Hail! Ulrik returns with tales of glory over an armored battalion of renegade Imperial Guardsmen! Their squadron of battle tanks fell far short of earning the name Leman Russ, and managed only to become smoldering wrecks. The Space Wolves also managed to secure the lost shipment of Fenrisian Ale! And so despite some brave, but ultimately costly maneuvers by a few Grey Hunters, this was an unqualified success!

So I ran a Wolf Claw Strike Force, so I loads of troops by filling up all the required GH packs, lascannon long fangs, a TWC pack, and a Wolf Lord on TWM for the Greatpack. I had Murderfang in a drop pod for Aux. I used Ulrik in the rhino with 8 Blood Claws, because that seemed the fluffy thing to do. Then I had a Wyrdstorm Brotherhood with 3 ML2 priests, one on a bike with the Helm of Durfast attached to the TWC squad. Then I had one in the LF squad with prescience, and one in the Rhino with Ulrik and the Claws.

Ulrik and the Blood Claws were almost like a Command Rhino, going around giving squads PE, taking shots when they could. Night Fighting and popping smoke helped me stay alive through the brutal first round of shooting, and good maneuvering to keep that bubble up. That was awesome, but i didn't wind up needing that PE bubble as often as I was hoping, but my rolls were decent, and in one case i wound up forgetting about it entirely when it would have been useful.

The real star was the RP on the bike with Helm of Durfast. Unreal how effective Eye of the Storm is. With so many to hit rolls, there are always going to be a couple 6s, and you wind up with more dice to wound than you started with. It was amazingly effective against anything with a 4+ or worse, and it just blanked out squads of guardsmen.

It was a laid back game set for 2000 points. He wound up bringing a list at 2025, i was at 2002.
