Building those Cataphractii....

I picked up a bunch of BaC Cataphractii off some box splitters, and intend to assemble them; likely as either Alpha Legion or Imperial Fists (I haven't decided which legion to go with).

Although I may be assuming too much, I figure that regardless of the Legion I build them as, they serve a similar'ish role; ala Terminators in 40k. A little shooty, a little punchy, some decent armor, and terrified of big scary guns.

I'm contemplating something like a 40% LC, 40% Fists, 20% Chainfists split (although I could drop it to 30% LC, 30% Fists, 20% Chainfists, 20% Power swords/axes). However, what I'm really at a loss for is; should I give them all combi-weapons? Would certainly give them more of a specialized battlefield role, but squad-wide gun upgrades would start stacking costs rapidly.

What have you guys found to work for you? I'd really appreciate any advise you guys have with regards to equipping Cataphractii Terminators.

I'm even open to hearing how you equip them in the Legion you use them/why you do so/what role to they fulfill in your list. No harm in familiarizing myself with the 30k setting!

Thanks!

Well...

It depends a lot on the legion you are going with.

Imperial Fists get access to storm shields and assault cannons - both of which are awesome, plus the ability to teleport.

Alpha legion on the other hand have special Larnean Terminators - these guys are WS5, Stubborn, armed with power axes and Volkite Chargers and have access to Comversion Beamers (although you'll still probably want a plasma blaster).

I wouldn't bother with swords/axes at all unless you're dead broke on points (in which case, stay with axe). Lightning Claws work for Sons and Children, everyone else should stick to fists and chainfists.

Why do claws work for sons and EC?
