Bloody Legionnaire
I'm looking for a good white paint. I have been using Citadel White Scar and Ceramite white, but I never get a good results from them and they always end up drying with like a chalky appearence. I also can't seem to get them to flow off the brush well then thinned. I'll try to get some flow aid and see if it makes a difference but I'm starting to feel like Citadel just doesn't have good white. Any recommendations on some of the other companies that have a white you've gotten good results from? Acebaur
Vallejo will be your best friend. They have an excellent range of paints in multiple different lines including Vallejo Game Color, Vallejo Model Color, and Vallejo Game Air. There are many problems with GW's paint the biggest of which is it thick and chunky. In fact the only GW paint I could recommend using is their metallics. Otherwise, I've begun switching over to Vallejo. Plus, dropper bottles for the win. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320483-your-recommended-white-paint/#findComment-4338567 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
I'd recommend the white paint from the Vallejo Air range. Apparently it's great for both mixing and applying as-is. Bloody Legionnaire
Thanks for the recommendations guys. I had some Vallejo black model color that replaced my Abaddon black when that dried up and got nasty and the vallejo turned out to be a win. I was going to default to vallejo but I know there are a lot of paints out there I hadn't tried that a lot of people like. I actually really enjoy the majority of GWs paints, washes and glazes.. there's just a few that drive me crazy. I'll be getting my Airbrush soon and will definitely be using Vallejo for most of my AB paints Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320483-your-recommended-white-paint/#findComment-4338608 Share on other sites
sockwithaticket
Vallejo Model Colour White over a base of Vallejo Game Colour Ghost Grey is a winner. Bloody Legionnaire
Well back to the drawing board it is gents. I picked up a few bottles of VGA dead white and I'm pretty disappointed with the results. Spraying straight from the bottle the paint is shoots like it is being dusted and I observe a lot of overspray. I tried thinning it a little bit and that seems to be worse. So i guess I'm looking for a new white that shoots well through an airbrush. I remember reading in an older post about whites where a guy said the pigments aren't very good in the whites GW and Vallejo make. Any other recommendations for a good airbrush formulated white paint? some extra info, I'm shooting at 20 PSI Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320483-your-recommended-white-paint/#findComment-4391270 Share on other sites
Guiltysparc
I've had great results with GW's corax white spray. If you are doing a model that is mostly white you can go that route. I'll be shooting it really finely as highlights, so I need something I can shoot through an airbrush. Thanks for the recommendations though. krakenfiend
Try Linen White from Reaper. It's a bit of an off white so not quite as stark as the other whites that have been mentioned. I shoot it through my Iwata Eclipse all the time with no problems. It brushes very nicely as well when you need super fine highlights. krakenfiend Edit: You will need to thin is a fair amount to shoot through the AB but once you have it thinned it is wonderful. Razblood
P3 morrow white is apparently excellent, only just got it and haven't had chance to try it yet. But it's liquid pigment based so shouldn't give you a dusty finish. ronin_cse
I know you said you wanted to move away from GW paint but their air line is actually pretty good. I haven't tried the white myself but you might want to give their white airbrush paint a shot. Reaper also has a pure white if you don;t want an off white, I've used it with good results. I have a Badger 360 (basically a 105) and I can just use reaper paints in it without thinning if I want to although thinning it is probably a good idea ;). Oh and there is snow white from Minitaire, I have actually had great results with this paint and it doesn't end up chalky AT ALL. It is very VERY slightly off white but it's hard to tell. One thing I did have to thin it when I ran it through my Badger Renegade, could have just been the age of the bottle though. So actually I'd probably recommend the Minitaire.
