Rommel44
Hey mates. I am working on building my Death Korps of Krieg Grenadiers and while I am in the process of doing that, I am considering what paint scheme to go. While researching online to get some ideas, I have seen a lot of Brown, Gray, Green, and even Blue schemes that look great. However, I have been tempted to run mine with Black Fatigues, as not only do I think it would look great on them; it would fit their dark, grim persona’s and fluff very well. Haven’t found much work to go off of in that regard, which is surprising to say the least, but I am here to bounce ideas off of you guys to see what you think. Looking to do Black as the main color, but also want them to give off a Dark but Cold look if that makes any since to anyone (aka Blue’s, Silver’s, White’s, etc), and I appreciate any feedback you can give me and while I know that Black is considered a boring color by many, I like the idea as it fit the Army very well. And fyi, I am fielding the Grenadier Assault Brigade, so all my Infantry are DKOK Grenadiers and they will be mounted in Storm Chimeras, which I planned to paint black as well unless you guys have any other suggestions or ideas to fit what I am going for or close to it. duz_
Black and red is always striking An extremely light eshin grey dry bursh is always good for adding a bit of depth and catching highlights If you use blue you'd want to do it over a base of white or light grey to get the contrast What about a brighter blue (lotherin)? And then use a wash afterwards to tone it down? Do some test models and post pics When I can decide how I want to go ahead I just put paint to model and see what happens Worst case you strip it and start again Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320499-help-with-dkok-paint-scheme-black-being-the-main-color/#findComment-4338914 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Sounds like a good scheme to me, very fitting :) I'd not go true black, a very dark grey would be best. Black and red is a great colour scheme, which is why the commissariat wears it. Or perhaps because the commissariat wears it... ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320499-help-with-dkok-paint-scheme-black-being-the-main-color/#findComment-4339123 Share on other sites
Truesight
Black would look great, my recommendation is if you are going for the heavy trench fighting look and want to spice up the black, is giving them all a thorough wash with Agrax Earthshade. It does wonders to give your troopers that 6 months into a campaign look. The Pounder
Hey Rommel. Funnily enough I'm rebuilding my Krieg army and intend on doing the great coats in black! I'm going for green armour with a blue trim. As the others have said red and black are a very striking scheme. I'd start with black then slowly add more grey to the mix. Here's a pic of my previous scheme (Commissar and Commander) krieg latest 008 by Justin Cottrell, on Flickr Death Korps of Krieg by Justin Cottrell, on Flickr Commander commissar 002 by Justin Cottrell, on Flickr commissar 003 by Justin Cottrell, on Flickr Commissar That's how I'm going about it. Hope that helps, enjoy the Krieg, they're a force like no other! Ulrik_Ironfist
I'd say go black (or very dark grey) coats with brown fatigues, as that looks both muted enough for krieg, yet striking enough to provide a visual contrast so the models don't look boring. Krieg has some really sweet models, and I really like them. I'd have some if they didn't have such a hefty price tag.
