STAGE ONE: Mark of the Wulfen (Yellow-Eyed. Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger)

A warrior of the 13th howls as Prospero burned around him. The men are led by Bulveye, lord of the 13th great company, sword brother to the Wolf King, Leman Russ. While the shock troops/underfang beast, are led by a Jarl known as Jorin Bloodfang (my way of fixing GW fluff inconsistency).

STAGE TWO: Curse of the Wulfen (Embrace the beast. Unleash the fury. Winter is Coming!)

My work in progress heresy era wulfen. My personal homage to both the old artworks seen on the Collected Visions book and to the old metal wulfen models during the Eye of Codex supplement. I'm not a fan of the new plastic models, from the waist down its just a waste of plastic and potential. A huge disappointment and whom ever designed the models, you should be ashamed! Sadly I'm not a fan of the current wulfen plastic conversions. Using terminator legs with the new wulfen torsos doesn't look right to me. For some reason it looks just off, even if you try to add some padding...

The skálds on Fenris tell a story about a starving wolf pack back on ancient terra. One of the whelps rejects the rules of the pack, rationalizing his decision by saying that filling one’s belly is more important than following a code. The young wolf leaves the others and begs for food from men. The men feed him. A year passes, the wolf has lived among the men and hunts with them. One day the men shoot an old wolf, and the wolf who runs with men realizes that the men have wounded the alpha of his former pack. As the old wolf dies, he says to the young wolf:

‘I have lived my life like a worthy wolf, I have hunted a lot and shared many prey with my brothers, so now I die happy. But you will live your life in shame and alone, in a world to which you do not belong, for you have rejected the dignity of a free wolf to have a full stomach. You have become unworthy. Wherever you go, you will be treated with contempt; you belong neither to the world of wolves nor to that of men... This will teach you that hunger comes and goes, but dignity, once lost, never returns.’

THE PALE HORSEMAN

gallery_24878_5750_35586.jpg

Skorpa the Pale Horseman. Fleshmaker of the Rout.

During the great crusade, Skorpa along with a watch pack, were sent by the Wolf King on orders from the Sigillite, to accompany the Imperial Heralds Legion of the 7th company. Sometime after the Edict of Nikaea, Skorpa was instructed by the Wolf King to investigate and learn more about his brother Aurelian's chaplain program. Under the counsel of a chaplain named Xaphen, the Fleshmaker undertook his investigation, unfortunately the two astartes had very different ideologies and never got along.

Xaphen thinking Skorpa but a pagan, was arrogant towards the son of Russ and belittled the Fleshmaker throughout his tutelage. “He is but a savage. A pagan dog who will not understand our devotion or our beliefs.” - Xaphen to his Primarch Aurelian of the XVII Legion. Insulting the Fenrisian was a daily routine for Xaphen. But Skorpa held back the fury that raged inside him and waited for his moment.

Eventually Skorpa fulfilled his duties and was deemed reeducated in the eyes of Xaphen. Skorpa was then urged to have a death mask forged as a rite of passage from pagan to chaplain. Going as far as to insult the wolf and ordering him to a bath and to groom himself to look proper in the eyes of the mighty Imperium.

gallery_24878_5750_69653.jpg
In his defiance, Skorpa got his revenge on Xaphen by killing his favored animal, a terran like horse breed of Colchis. Using the head as his personal death mask, while leaving the bloodied carcass on Xaphen's prayer altar and words written on the walls simply saying, the pagan was here!

On route back to Fenris, Skorpa and his watch pack sent their reports back to both the Leman of the Russ and Malcador the Sigillite. In his report and to the amusement of the Wolf King, Skorpa said that they did not smell right and that the frostborn should remain in the ways of Fenris. Oathsworn to the Allfather and to the Wolf King.

THE GODLESS

gallery_24878_5750_82915.jpg

Uthred The Godless
Pack Master sent to assist and watch over the Imperial Heralds on orders by the Sigillite. Uthred has a distrust towards the pious, which the XVII Legion embodied. Earning him a reputation from the Imperial Heralds and the moniker of "The Godless." Uthred making a point to enforce the Imperial Truth, even amongst the brother legions.
gallery_24878_5750_45413.jpg
They dabble in silent prayers and pay homage to the Allfather. "The God Emperor" they whisper in secret. It almost makes me laugh. He is but the Allfather to the frostborn and the only man to best the Wolf King in a real fight between two warriors. But a God King? should I hear the words spoken openly, my blade will silence them forever, for I am the sanctioned son of Russ.

Dark times call for dark deeds...

gallery_24878_5750_114311.jpg

I wanted to think outside the box on this one, as I've seen very few SW contemptor pattern dreadnoughts that do the VI Legion justice. Once completed and when I am satisfied with the results I can be proud of it.

More photos on the SW forum and on my WIP/PIP topic...

One of my old Grey Hunters done last year or maybe two years ago?! Anyway, I just re-based the first five on a larger 32mm base. Hopefully painted soon but don't take my word for it haha!

I've added a different weapon on him. He originally had an axe but I found that this current weapon was fitting due to his helmet. Some symmetry in it that I found satisfying.

Forward now. Forward to battle slaughter. Beware the man who loves battle. The old Gothi had told me that only one man in three or perhaps one man in four is a real warrior and the rest are reluctant fighters, but I was to learn that only one man in twenty is a lover of battle. Such men were the most dangerous, the most skillful, the ones who reaped the souls, and the ones to fear. I was such a one, and that day, beside the river where the blood flowed into the rising tide, and beside the burning pyramids on Prospero, I let the howls of morkai sing his song of death. I remember little except a rage, an exultation, a massacre. This was the moment the skalds celebrate, the heart of the battle that leads to victory, and the courage had gone from those sorcerers in a heartbeat.

I am Odda, called he-who-spits-fire by my kith and kin.

My arm was torn from my body, by a green-skin warlord, in my attempts to save my jarl from the red snow. I spat in the eyes of the monster and laughed at his face. In return I was sent crashing to the ground. The force of his blow was like an avalanche on my beaten and bloodied body. My weapons were either broken or lost in the fight. There my arm lay beside me, so I took it and used it as a weapon, stunning the green-skin long enough for my jarl to pierce his blade through its neck.

The jarl of Sepp then gave me the honor to give the worthy enemy the blood eagle. Soon the hordes of the leaderless green-skins broke and became disordered at the sight of their warlord. The battle was long fought, but we earned the victory that day. I also was given a new arm and earned my new name.

PAINTING IN PROGRESS....

gallery_24878_5750_98555.jpg

OMG I painted something...

I prefer my wolves grim and griddy. It's an aesthetic choice that goes nicely with my war band and their fluff. If I wanted my wolves to be painted crisp and clean, I might as well play Ultramarines... but don't get me wrong, I have seen some beautifully painted clean and crisp looking Space Wolves out there. My guys are just heavily influenced by grim-dark, Frank Frazetta and the Prospero Burns book.

I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone else's blood and I have no problem with going out the same way.

I had the arrogant confidence of a man born to battle. I am Uhtred, son of Russ. Man of the Rout.

PIP Wulfen.. color scheme inspired by http://iconosquare.com/p/1191464848540030129_2308501524

He who dies without discipline dies without honor. We have a saying in among the Frostborn. ‘It takes a vast amount of self control to be this dangerous.'

Prospero burns around me. My enemies before me. I will unleash hell. I will bring the muder-make. For Russ and the All-father!

I've changed his arms from my original pose. It didn't feel right to me, but hopefully this new look says, "13th Company shock trooper" anyway, this guy is about 70% done. I still have several touch-ups and details/highlights to work on. Don't worry Wolf Lord Kieran, I have several years worth of unpainted wolves for the ETL. This is just my warm up. Blame Fytharin for getting me to show some painting done. Haha.
