Disappointed with the Mastadon.

But it simply means it won't be taken. Frankly, the appeal is that it's a safe transport. It's not particularly killy, and it takes up a huge chunk of an army.

When the Malcador Infernus Super Heavy tank is a Heavy Support for under 300 points, this looks like a misfire.

Not everyone will see it that way, or even reason it that way if they do decide not to take it. So, instead of this thread being purely about griping, what would you propose would be a good fix to the problem you see? Have you taken steps to address the issue (email FW)?

Emailing forgeworld used to yield results but it's no longer the case.

The Mastodon should be a heavy support but one that can only be taken once, or a dedicated transport to a Primarch and his unit that doesn't count towards the 25% LoW limitation.

But, I thought 30k wasn't about competitiveness and efficiency, but forging the narrative?

This doesn't really help there though because I could easily see Perturabo or someone rocking up in one of these with his Iron Circle or some terminators. That's pretty narrative-y. I can see where Ishagu is coming from, Primarchs should be able to ride around in them really, from a narrative perspective.

From the conversation, I'm assuming it doesn't transport bulky, or is it the two lord of war thing?

In that case, how is it narrative-y that Perturabo gets into a transport too small for him? That's like putting him in a rhino. He just doesn't fit.

Why would he cramp himself in when he has a much larger, roomier spartan with inbuilt pool table, or the Tormentor?

Again, the Mastodon is a siege engine, for the initial assaults on teh ramparts, and expected to be destroyed (hence armoured bulkheads) why on earth would a primarch (bar Angron) ever put themselves in that danger?

Even Perturabo doesnt join the initial assault on the walls, leaving it to people like Kroeger. I've read he usually teleports onto the battlements once shields have been brought down, etc.

And a teleporter.

There's also a fact to remember that Mastadons seem to be made for the "expendable" troops. punch through the defenses, dump everyone off, and then just sit tight until everyone's dead and the serfs are picking up everything left behind.

Unless you take the new Primarch RoW.

In any case, I still see great value with it. I'd love to roll this sucker around flanked by my Spartans and have it filled with more Terminators or Despoilers. The model is awesome and the interior detail is amazing. That alone makes it a great buy. Should Primarchs be able to hitch a ride in one? Yes. Let's hope this gets remedied, because if they're going to truck about in anything, this would be it.

The fact that it's a mobile bunker and if destroyed becomes an ACTUAL bunker is cool as well.

The new Primarch RoW prohibits the use of further LoW.

It's nothing to do with bulky, the Mastodon is huge. It's a 2 lords of war thing yeah. And Perturabo was just an example.

Ahh yes, good point. I had forgotten that.

I think a Mastodon as a Dedicated Transport for a Primarch is a bit too much. A lot too much, actually.
