As another day begins etl drifts closer, what will you do with your time? I hope your planning you annual leave and holidays, sending your misses away for 3 months and selling your children for resin.

The ship is dry docked as we prepare for our 5th engagement for E TENEBRAE LUX but the train is still gaining speed.

Will we fail once more proving chaos to be truly the strongest or will we show them the fight has just begun?

But let's not forget others are wanting our title, we've seen those young pups in the Aett start practicing their growls and that the Templars will come forward with zeal! The angels are planning and scheming away and the imperium are awaiting their orders to play so stop take a breath there's still some time to prepare yourself yet!

Nice motivational speech.

Someone with your speed & skill would always be welcome over in the Aett.

One thing to note though, It isn't YOUR title until you win it.

Do not get ahead of yourselves, or start displaying complacency just yet.

Win it, then you can boast, rather than boast now and be seen as a bunch of blow-hards.

My robots arrived today.

18 Thallax (2 squads of 9) with 6 plasma-fusils, heavy chainblades, and destructor = 870

5 Castellax with Enhanced Targeting Arrays = 590

1 Thanatar with Enhanced Targeting Array = 265

1 Thanatar-Calix with Enhanced Targeting Array = 310

1 Archmagos Inar Satareal counts-as = 295

Total is 2330 pts.

If I finish them.

And I still have no idea how I'm going to paint them

Depending on your scheme you could rock the metallics with the colour washes on top to get the shiny blues/reds/golds.

So bulk spray undercoat/base coat/mass washing leaving loooooaaaads of time for details.

Good lord I need an airbrush...

I'm curious what are you going to use for Satarael?

Also, how are you going to represent enhanced targeting arrays? I thought all upgrades had to be wysiwyg, which makes it kinda hard for stuff like this. (And armoured Ceramite, Lorgar transfigured, optics upgrade on knights etc)

Spoke with Semper about the upgrades and I'll have to do something to show them on the model - either painting or modeling. If I can find something that will work with my personal rule of trying to make my figures as realistic as possible then I'll do it, but putting something as sensitive as an upgraded targeting system on the outside of the robot doesn't make sense to me and will most likely be dropping the points for them.

Quality is subjective, man. What's important about the ETL is making a pledge and sticking it out to the end. And practice can only help you improve. biggrin.png

YouTube is your friend. Soak in as mulch knowledge as you can and practice often smile.png

it's mostly because i have a shake, cant do any fine details like edge highlighting

If you don't want to participate, I won't pressure you, but don't fear entering because of your painting ability. I've been doing this a long time and consider my painting skills average at best (they used to be a lot better), and am routinely blown away by some of the stuff I see on here.

Honestly a cheap airbrush and compressor will remove alot of hand work, then fine detail brushes for your paints, vallejo are a better consistency to work with imo then citadel and always go for an easy scheme that won't require a thousand steps.

CelticRaven, I hope what I say will make sense. Have you ever tried doing the highlights in reverse? What I mean is on my Raven Guard after I prime them I paint the upper edges with AP Uniform Gray then I paint the bulk of the panel VMC grey black and paint the grey black up to the highlight. This way I am not trying to fine line the edge as it was done in the highlight color already.

And then there is the airbrush.

CelticRaven. Good to hear you are taking part.

Level of painting skill is irrelevent to the ETL, the main thing is to have fun and enjoy the painting. It is also an ace time to learn as so many people take part, it is a real melting pot.

If you cant fine highlight then I'd suggest drybrushing is a quick and easy method for picking out detail on a model. It can also give them a nice battle-worn feel too.

I also agree with Jalgar about basecoating anarea in the lightest colour possible and applying the darker colours after. It was a technique I used a lot in the past.

Good on you for giving it a go, welcome to the ETL (when it starts)
