Nestorian Infestation - Deathwatch

Red Skullz

Recommended Posts

I've joined up with fellow Norwegian blogger WilhelMiniatures in a joint project where we'll both make a small Deathwatch band, a Genestealer cult and a inquisitor. The latter on each side of the law.

I'll be refitting my botched Grey Knights gang into Deathwatch.

Tor’ghan of the Scars hunting those infested by Nestorian..

Key Watch skills; Speed, warrior poet

His armour bearing unnatural wear and tear from the toxic environment the Cult has released upon this hapless world..

The insurmountable odds Tor’ghal and his temporary battle brothers face would make even great men falter..

Faith and courage keep them going in the face of this heretical horror..

Holy candles and reliquaries protect against the xenos spoors..

But what truly keeps Tor’ghal, son of the steppes, a rider of the storm, Khan of his people and brother of the Watch sane…is thoughts of Chogoris..and the mantra of his people..

I am the punishment of the Emperor…If you had not committed great sins, He would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.

Well that was different :) I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a big fan of painting Space Marines and I didn’t exactly feel that this one was going anywhere until the very end.

Now I’m actually quite pleased at the result, especially the lenses and the pose as it signals that he’s far from done despite taking loads of damage.

Varan Dor of the Imperial Fists analyze the fortifications of a suspected stronghold of Nestorian..

Key Watch skills; Engineer skills

When war is on your left

and death is on your right

Never Give Up

We are fighting a war against the demons who seem to hold our souls

Though death is the way we live by

Take the swords of War and Death and fight

Life is a battle, we either fight, or we cower

And we do not cower

Varan Dor has lost his helmet..it is often the first thing the cult targets..

The holy candles and the astartes physiology handle it barely..

The running nose and watery eyes shows as much..but Varan Dor will never relinquish his mission..

Obviously on a roll here but now that I know the formula on how I want it it’s quite easy and quick to do :)

As I paint the third member I’m having second thoughts on the armament of these two..

The left one is the Dark Angels Watch sergeant and the one on the right is the Vlka Fenryka marine.

Thing is, I quite like the all bolters approach as it as Space Marines as it gets in my book but I can’t shake some ideas on specialists.

1) That I need an apotechary

I guess that the best guys to explore some viral spoor that affects biologically would be apothecaries. So I’m seriously considering making the sergeant into one. He’d still lead the squad.

2) That the Vlka Fenryka member only needs knifes.

His role is more the tracker and silent killer in the front. So I’m basically thinking of dropping firearms on him.

Thoughts & opinions?

Stronor, Iron Hands. Heavy weapon specialist has joined the team!

In addition I've done more on the sergeant, wolf, apotechary and I'm actually thinking a 8th member of the Watch team.

Fravashi the Just..

“I remember when I was the Just..strong and fair..

..then I faced Nestorian..and he broke me..

..they found me in a pool of bio matter..clinging to life..for vengeance..

..they brought me back..and darkness took me..

..when I awoke it was not by my will..and someone asked..

..”do you remember who you are..?”..

..“YES..I AM ZAHARIEL“..

..”good..we need you again..the Just must..”..

..“NOT JUST..HE IS NO MORE“..I AM WRATH..I AM ANGER..I AM..

..THE BEAST INCARNATE”..

“..good..we need you again Zahariel..you see..we’ve found Nestorian”..

  • 2 weeks later...

Welcome to "Inquisitor week"! There will be a new member added each day. Here goes :)

Hello darkness, my old friend,

I've come to talk with you again,

Because a vision softly creeping,

Left its seeds while I was sleeping,

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

- excerpt from Sound of Silence

Black is the color of mourning, death, and sadness producing feelings of emptiness, gloom, or sadness..

In a former life he'd been a run of the mill juve..ekin out an existence of nothing..

Then Berrugoete had caught him when he'd been too bold and tried to steal from his supplies one night..

Expecting death he had instead received life, service and purpose..

Initially I was very uncertain on this one as I felt he was a bit meh but after painting him I actually really like him. Bonus and he gets to stay!

Day 2 and now it’s with a former Arbites!

This is actually one of my personal favorites. Made from a tech priest and the primus he just looks like business and his proportions just click.

God I love your painting style, really great. I wish I could come up with a unique style myself but am currently stuck mostly imitating other minis I like that I find online or on coolminiornot etc at the moment. Will perhaps try a small warband of something outside my comfort zone in the future.

Still, any general tips on how you achieved this look? Very curious, thanks.

Day 4!

Well you didn’t think I’d call it “inquisitor week” with a model per day without delivering did you (the retinue originally only had 6 members) :)

I felt the retinue lacked something but luckily this mutant retrofitted into an Arco-flagellant fills that void!

Cheers guys!

@Strength 10: Thank you very much mate :) Well I don't exactly have a recipe but I utilize a lot of the technical paints like rust and oxide as well as glazes and washes. I can do an example.

The black metal

Undercoat black

Paint it silver metallic

Black wash*2

Dark brown wash*2

Sponge with silver to get that flaky look

Very lightly add rust here and there

Then do the same with oxide

Then use a dry silver to lightly bring more edge to it

Finally a very light round of rust again

The point is to have depth and texture, make it grimy and gritty but bringing each color and detail forward so its not only a smudge.

Hope that helps :)
