How do people run Rhinos in 30k?

Are the pintle weapons widely used by players? What about Havok launcers?

I'm thinking of Combi Bolter and a Multi Melta on each one for the nice coverage, but can't decide if the cost is worth it on such a delicate transport, and if it would simply make it a greater target...

Yeah, that's what I initially thought and it seems efficient to run them stock, but seeing as you'll be advancing towards the enemy a cheeky Multi-Melta shot can perhaps expose troops that were hiding in a transport, or vape a terminator running around nearby.

I'm not sure you can take multi meltas, but you can take combi-meltas. I regularly take one along with one on my sergeant. If you give them outflank it's not a bad way to strip a hull point off something in the backfield. Then you get 4 rapid fire bolter shots, which again is nothing to write home about, but its double the firepower your rhino normally gets.

I don't think I've taken havoc launchers since 3rd edition.

If you don't have a weapon, then Weapon Destroyed results will count as immobilized. While the transport will usually die sooner anyway, there might be a moment where it will matter, like getting stuck in an unfavourable position due to a lucky pen on a 5 and 6 and temporarily stuck on a 4.

Aren't the multi-meltas only available on Land Raiders and larger?

Its only a single shot though. For the points cost? I could think of a better investment, honestly. And if running with Tac vets inside you can have 2 Sniper Heavy Bolters shooting out the top hatch.

Why would a pintle-mounted weapon only have one shot? Or are you referring to a combi-melta?

Rhinos come stock with a bolter on them, so you're covered for that weapon destroyed result. Not really any point in giving a rhino another weapon just for the damage result. I'd rather keep them cheap, throw on dozer blades and that's it.

Same in the case of the Multimelta. Single shot per turn with 24" range. For something like 4 meltabombs in cost.

So me that isnt worth it all that much. id rather a cheaper Heavy Flamer that just needs to cover stuff with the template or a heavy bolter for volume of fire.

The multimelta really serves no purpose for my needs despite it being S8 ap1.

Sometimes I give mine a heavy Bolter since I play Iron Warriors and so they have shrapnel Bolts for pinning. It's okay I guess. Pretty expensive but ok. Sometimes they even pin someone which is nice.

That's rather nice. Especially from a fluff stand point too - Iron Warriors bundle out, rapid fire while the Rhino lays down pinning fire support.

Would you be kind enough to point out where in the rules it states that a pintle-mounted weapon is only one shot?

I ususally run mine naked but for a dozer blade. Sometimes I spring for combi-bolters to add a little firepower. The one exception is that I might make is for a veteran tactical squad using the Outflank tactic. They might get a heavy flamer, but only because I'm running Salamanders which makes them Strength 6.

Er... also, I'd like to point out that you can't take a pintle-mounted multi-melta, unless that was in the FAQ or a book reprint and I haven't caught it yet. Just combi-bolter, heavy bolter, heavy flamer, and havoc launcher.
