GruntAngel
Hello ladies and gentlemen, So here I am, fighting with itti tiny bits of earth magnets and I realize they are so strong that the games workshop glue don't keep them from ripping apart from their base in order to happily stick to each others. Any advices? I've tried to drill a hole, fill it with glue, leave it dry, then get them close togheter and er... I haven't put enough glue? Would that be the only thing? Just asking before putting any more time on this since I have a lot of things to assemble. Hints and advices welcome. Many thanks. Kastor Krieg
I have no idea what "GW glue" is. Pick up THICK "CA" glue (cyanoacrylate, same thing as SuperGlue, only superglue is thin and leaks like a bastard), make a hole or don't, use the glue sparingly, place the magnet and GIVE IT TIME. Like, an hour at least.Possible problems on your side:Not enough glue.Crappy glue. Not enough drying time for the glue.Technique doesn't matter. Also, TOO MUCH glue will result in pockets of fluid glue under the solid glue, which will make the whole thing less stable. More glue = more time for the glue to breathe and harden. Ovidius Incertus
If you drill a hole (and why wouldn't you?), superglue is good to go if you don't use too much (messy!) and let it dry. I use a toothpick to apply a bit of glue to the sides and bottom of the hole and then press the magnet in. Never had anything other than the largest disc magnets pull out, but that was with an insufficiently deep hole. Ciler
As said above, in my experience if a magnet comes off, then you have not waited long enough for the glue to set properly. An hour is a good estimate, for some of my more finicky projects I let it sit overnight. What specifically are you trying to magnetize, and what diameter and depth magnets are you using? Vykryl
I use loctite gel super glue, blue & grey bottle. No issues with magnets coming loose. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320730-how-to-magnetize-properly/#findComment-4345605 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
As Vykryl said gel super glue works absolute wonders. Making sure the magnet and model are clean helps too, as during the essential dry run phase you can get some grease on. If the magnet comes out that means you almost certainly didn't give it time to set, that or it didn't have enough to bind to. GS filling can help with the latter.
