Bolter/pistol/chainaxe and converting Sarum pattern helmets

I'm considering buying a Betrayal at Calth bundle to kick-start a Heresy era World Eaters force. I'm looking for some modelling tips before I pull the trigger so I came to ask the best.

1. Sarum pattern helmets. These look quite simple to convert using plastic Mk VII helmets, if they even need converting at all. Has anyone done this already with decent results? If I can pull it off I'll have a bunch of spare Mk II World Eaters helmets to use on future models.

2. Boltgun and bolt pistol and chainaxe. I want at least one large tactical squad loaded for bear but unlike our Emperor-Father they only have two arms each. The obvious solution is a boltgun and chainaxe in each hand with a holstered pistol but I don't want to repeat it 20 times. Are there any particularly good examples of boltguns and/or chainaxes maglocked or slung that I can pinch draw inspiration from to vary my poses?

Chainaxe attached behind the back pack, can imagine there are some unsighted bands or grooves for it to slot into:

In addition to Forgeworld's chainaxes Anvil just released some. Most of them are gripped (various different hand positions and wrist tilts, which is a nice touch), but one of them is loose and there's a spare haft, so you could cut the head and neck off one of the hands and attach it to that if you like.

If you haven't already seen his stuff, KrautScientist does some pretty awesome work.

The entire thread is worth a read, but the heresy stuff starts roughly on page 76.

Post 1897 is a good place to start with conversion inspiration for what you're trying to do.

Hope this is of use.

I did some easy converting on my noise marine melee squad. They're armed with bolter, pistol and chainsword, but the process should be similar with axes.

IIRC one has bolter in one hand, pistol in the other and sword hanging from belt, one has pistol and sword with bolter stuck under the backpack (took some filing) and... I think the last guy has bolter and sword, with holstered pistol.

Basically, just do some swapping around with which weapons are in hand and which are holstered. Bolter or axe could be strapped to backpack, pistol holstered, etc.

I'll try to post a couple photos tomorrow or Friday.

Fantastic! I hadn't noticed those new axes and I like them for all the reasons you mention.

Thanks for the link. I've had a quick skim through the last few pages and I like what I saw. I'll go back for a proper look later.

Pictures would be great, thank you.

I'd forgotten about tucking things under/alongside the backpacks to conceal the join. A few of those are just the kind of variation I'm after.

On my phone, so linking is a little harder, but search (via Google) Gawain Veteris, he did a series covering converting mkII-mkV from GW plastics.

Cheers,

Jono
