GW Regimental Standard page

So this just popped up in my fb feed

http://regimental-standard.com/

They also have a fb page too

Described as a weekly newsletter for guardsmen

The two articles posted are an amusing read but no other indications of products being pedalled or special rules going up

Anyone else know more?

No idea it just appeared

Almost like one marketing guy said oh btw I had started this blog for my hobby but we can brand it gw if you want

Or who knows maybe we can expect some interesting things for our faction soon and they're trying to build new interest from potential hobbyists

looks legit to me.  the FB page has been making the rounds lately, and if you look at  the "legal stuff" on the Regimental standard page it shows the standard GW legalize.  Even the art looks like the stuff that's showing up on the GW FB page.

It doesn't look like it's specific to Guard. Just using the Guard (what's this Astra Militarum they keep talking about?) as the theme for the community page so I don't think it'll mean anything special for the Guard over any other codex. Take a look at all the soldier/commissar stuff as a good example.

Still I suppose it does make some GW sense; in that trying to do something good they inevitably bugger it up tongue.png If GW want some help with this no doubt scary venture into the unknown of "community" they can always contact the real commissariat for some help laugh.pngmsn-wink.gif

It's got a very 1990's Starship Trooper movie kind of vibe, which is fun I guess. Some of the posters linked me directly to the GW webstore, and the legaleze made me think it's a GW site. I don't think this means anything for guard in specific, but it makes sense to do a guard recruiting themed site, since if we lived in the 40k universe, most of us would be fodder for the guard rather than space marines. It's what, 10% of humans, that get selected to be SM aspirants, and of those maybe 20-40% make it to be actual Space Marines? In universe it makes sense, which for GW it makes sense as a marketing strategy, since most of us like the lore as well as the game and the models that go with it.

Maybe Powergamers don't care about the lore, but they're d-bags anyway so they don't count...

yeah, I never really did like the "starship troopers" movie... just two goofy for me, but my problem was that I loved the book and felt betrayed by the film. As for whether GW runs the blog, I'd say yup, even the DNS Address is registered to GW. But the could have spruced up the site though. It really does look to much like a fan page. I mean they're still using the WP thumbnail...

I'm wondering where this weekly content is supposed to be confused.gif

I was wondering that as well. There's only two posts up there right now, and for a "community" there's no way to interact with anyone. I'll prolly keep an eye on it over the next few weeks but after that forget it.

It all depends on what you like. I did not read the book before seeing the movie, as I was really to young to understand the book when the movie was released. Having now read the book, I can definitely say the book was better. Still though the movie was campy and hilarious, and I still enjoy it (the first one and only the first one, though the CG Invasion movie was actually good so there's that).

I checked out the Regimental Standard facebook page, and they clearly state that it's a GW page, so I'd call that confirmation enough. The site is a work in progress I bet, and as for the thumbnail, well, I have it on good authority that that's a rather involved thing to change, and maybe GW would rather establish it first then worry about such minutiae.

I think the community part will be integrated with a facebook plugin, that comments through the facebook page. My guess is that they haven't yet implemented it, and are still trying to figure out if it's going to take off.

If it's a WIP it has no place being live yet, it just seems to have been managed completely wrong? A shame as it could have been good but as it stands the fate of Finecast seems to await. Not sure if there's still room under that rug :P
