Motorhead
Greetings: I have just bought Betrayal at Calth and it looks like I will be travelling 10k years back and starting a Heresy era force. I don't have any rules yet. I am still deciding on a Legion and while I decide I want to build the models without gluing something I might regret once I've made my choice. Which weapons make sense for the terminators and the tactical sergeants? I understand tactical squads are all bolters so I can't go wrong there, can I? What about heavy and special weapons? Thanks in advance for the help. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320795-how-to-equip-betrayal-at-calth-models-to-start/ Share on other sites
Black Cohort
For the power armour guys you have a couple of options. 1. regular tactical marines, as you said they have nothing but bolters and bolt pistols. The squad can either swap the bolter for a close combat weapon or buy a close combat weapon. 2. veteran tactical marines, normally an elites choice. Some Rites of War let you take them as troops. They can take 1 heavy or special per 5 and have bolter, bolt pistol and close combat weapon. 3. If you have enough special or heavy weapons you can make heavy or support squads, basically smaller squads all equipped with the same heavy or special weapon. 5 guys minimum. most people run sgts stock, or with artificer armour and a melee weapon. Your other option is a combi-weapon. 30k terminators have similar options to terminator wolf guard. They start with a twin-linked bolter and power weapon. I would definitely take the 1 heavy per 5. Otherwise it is up to you. You probably want at least one powerfist, chainfist or thunderhammer to let you deal with vehicles better. Slips
Before assembling anything, you want to have a look through the Rules and Legions. Get them by any means to start (yarr) so you can get a firm grasp on what you can/cannot do and what you can expect to get out of this. A lot of what we say will be pretty meaningless without context. Jerichus
This link helped me alot when I was deciding what to build. Although I recommend you post in the Stickied thread at the top of this subforum as well for some additional advice! Ironwithout
You really need to pick a Legion first buddy. Failing that build nothing but tactical marines and dont build the sargents. The loadout could depend on the legion Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320795-how-to-equip-betrayal-at-calth-models-to-start/#findComment-4346280 Share on other sites

noigrim
but it matters, Imperials fists would be better with a 5 man missile/heavy bolter squad for example since thay have tank hunters/BS 5 in the bolters, if he picks alphas he'll go better with melta squads/meltabomb vets since he can infiltrate, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320795-how-to-equip-betrayal-at-calth-models-to-start/#findComment-4346412 Share on other sites
Motorhead
Imperial Fists are what I'm leaning towards. My fear of painting yellow is holding me back. From my extremely limited knowledge, I want apothecaries and an elite (low model count) force with few vehicles other than dreadnoughts. I have been looking at the main Legion picking thread and would like to thank the people responsible. It is a great resource. Jerichus
You could always go for a black with yellow details for a Templar force! There's a very good painting log with Bladewolf here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/314998-the-scouring-and-the-birth-of-the-new-templar/ that could give you some inspiration! Ion
Elite low model count means you might wanna run a Pride of the Legion list. If you're using the B@C termies then you're gonna want some way of moving their hefty butts around the field, since you don't really want footslogging cataphractii.
