G-Potatio's Epic Bat-Rep Thread: 40k Blangels v WE & S. Aux

Good day fraters, and it is indeed a good day! For today I slew a Primarch!

Turn 1

http://i.imgur.com/au3yXb9.jpg

I make my first mistake here. I should not have driven the Vanquisher or Dracosian forward. I should have also stayed put to fire the 4 quad lascannons at the Contemptors, foolishly I drove at them. Like really stupid. Despoilers won't beat dreadnoughts! Really really stupid first turn for me, but this is literally the second game of Warhammer I've ever played!

Note also the Deredeo is off screen to the right of the Quad Mortars. I suspected he would want to drop assault onto that general area, wisely so!

The Dracosian fires and horribly misses the Tactical Squad. Ripperino.

The Vanquisher fires and glances a HP off the center Contemptor, failing almost all the rerolls conferred by Armourbane and Tank Hunters. Bad Vanquisher!

So a pitiful first turn for me, the Raven Guard retaliation is painful.

http://i.imgur.com/4RmXZ3m.jpg

Oh nooooooo, plasma support squad!

http://i.imgur.com/PMRGOSX.jpg

The Destroyers fire their bolt pistols and a rad missile at my attack bikes, slaying one in a hideous, radioactive explosion.

http://i.imgur.com/EtWhSNy.jpg

The Deredeo opens fire with all batteries via Interceptor. Slaying four marines and pinning them! Great success.

The Kheres naught opens up on the Vanquisher. It promptly annihilates it. I was slightly shocked by this, considering the Kheres to be not overly great at AV14 but sooo many dice rolls sad.png

The Dark Furies charge the Dark Throne along with the fist-Contemptor, promptly shaking and stuning it while reducing it to one HP. Ouch.

http://i.imgur.com/o9E5BPP.jpg

The Assault Marines jump upon the Dracosian, deploying melta bombs on the rear armour. It manages to do quite well and only lose 2 HP!

http://i.imgur.com/E1zZUCc.jpg

The Assault Marines and Dark Furies close in further, desiring murderous stabbings against my valorous World Eaters.

Turn 2

So turn 2 arrives. I've lost an attack bike and the Vanquisher, who failed to even dent a Contemptor. Not great! Let's see if we can recover.

I unload the deadly cargo of the Spartan, to engage the Destroyers and Dark Furies. The Dracosian furiously guns it in reverse and the Veletarii pile out and prime Choom to maximum strength.

http://i.imgur.com/kBzMvvK.jpg

MAXIMUM CHOOM! The Assault squad is shredded by a wall of Glorious Martian Deathray, but they pass their leadership test.

The field artillery opens up with a deluge of frag rounds, 3 Marines drown in fiery shrapnel glory.

http://i.imgur.com/iq5UR3g.jpg

Now we get to the good stuff! The Legion Inductii's charge the Dark Furies. 5 Inductii go down under the claws of the Raven Lord's minions, but I then get to roll 45 dice in revenge, which results in 3 Furies being hacked to death in a gratifyingly satisfying manner. The Raven Guard Chaplain singles out Gahlan Surlak in a challenge. Gahlan smashes aside the Chaplain's pitiful attacks and buries his axe in his silly albino face. Unfortunately the Raven Guard win the combat and Gahlan is slain in the resulting dice rolls.

http://i.imgur.com/HIOnQUs.jpg

"Raaaaaaaaaah" Gahlan - probably

http://i.imgur.com/4WqF6by.jpg

Now it was the destroyers turn.

His foolish sargeant challenges me, so I send forth the Blood Minotaur to hammer him in the face.

http://i.imgur.com/IuP2psy.jpg

An entirely surprising result, of course tongue.png The entire destroyer squad are wiped from existence.

Turn 3

The Tables, THEY TURN UPON US!

http://i.imgur.com/p7OkRHS.jpg

So despite the gratifying success in wiping out the Destroyers, we are now faced with two angry Contemptors AND a motherflipping Primarch. Eep.

http://i.imgur.com/AodyoIn.jpg

Eeeeep!

The Dark Throne is charged and brutally destroyed by the Contemptor and remaining Furies melta bombs.

http://i.imgur.com/0MojbuM.jpg

The Mycaran Lions are, unsurprisingly, annihilated by the wrathful Primarch; but the fearless and defiant Chaplain screams "BRING IT ON, YOU PASTY FREAK!!" and promptly thunderously hammers him so hard the Raven Lord declines to face his anger further and runs away.

Turn 4

A round of uneventual shooting from the Rapiers and Deredeo, only putting down a few marines.

The Doom of Minoss however, blasts Corax full in the face for 3 wounds.

Chaplain Badass McBadassitude then charges the Dreadnought and smashes his hammer so hard it explodes. He's on a roll!

http://i.imgur.com/jVAuQQz.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/y9yfdo4.jpg

On the other side, the famed discipline of the Solar Auxilia was to be shown. The sole survivor of the Plasma Support Squad charges the rapier battery, which has been whittled down by repeated hails of bolter fire from the tactical squad.

As he had a raven's talon, I was expecting the worst. That was until Auxilia Infantryman Greg put a lasgun round through the sargeant's face! Overwatch and through a 2+ armour save. Glorious.

http://i.imgur.com/0CB0wMe.jpg

The remaining Contemptor engages the remnants of the Inductii squad, crushing 3. The sargeant tragically fails to do anything with his powerfist beyond a single glancing hit. He does, however, proceed to violently fist the last Dark Fury.

http://i.imgur.com/867wx5g.jpg

The Solar Auxilia continue to amaze, as the sole surviving assault marine assaults the last 4 Veletarii. He cuts down 3, before the seargeant managers to thrust his combat blade through his visor and strike him down.

Not pictured is the last bike suicidally charging a Contemptor and getting squashed. Oops.

Tragically, the Chaplain is slain by Corax sad.png

Turn 5

Sweet revenge.

The Spartan, despite it's clearly imminent demise, fires it's quad-lascannons at Corax, for a fantastic 2 wounds. Just one left. He fires the twin-linked heavy bolters and the rolls get desperate. The Raven Lord takes a heavy bolter round to the chest, but it doesn't penetrate. Gaaaah! Noooo!

The Deredeo stomps forward, aligning his weapon batteries on the fell Primarch. Unfortunately the Tactical squad is close by, so he only hits on a 6. The autocannons thunder, but fail to harm him. The aiolos fires 3 arcing missiles, which land on the Primarch and obliterate him a shower of gore. The Raven Lord has been slain! Glory to the XVII Legion!

http://i.imgur.com/XXgkCP3.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/B3N6upe.jpg

Finally, the Contemptor charges, but fails to finish the Spartan. The rapiers explode the drop pod to deny him Linebreaker.

Game over!

Summary:

My foe beat me 10-8, winning out due to first blood and slaying my warlord. A very close fought game, with most of both our armies taking full or near full casualties.

Conclusion

When playing Raven Guard and dreadnoughts, do not attempt to close with infantry or vehicles. If I had initially fired all my weapons, I could have easily wiped most of the Contemptors. I also fired Sunder shells at the Assault Marines, whereas frags could have done much better too.

MVPs

Gahlan Surlak - 110pts of HQ smashed down a Jump Pack, MC Crozius, Artificer Armoured Chaplain.

Doom of Minoss- Quad lascannons were great at putting down Corax

Chaplain Minotaur - repeated victorious duals, made the Raven Lord run away!

Deredeo - His Aiolos pinned the Plasma Squad with interceptor, meaning they couldn't finish off the tanks they dropped to destroy.

Quad Guns - regularly dropped ordnance that inflicted heavy casualties#

Inductiis - 5 S5 attacks on the charge is a hilariously huge amount of dice and very fun

LVPs

Attack bikes - died without a shot. Derp.

Power fists on Tactical Sarges - melta bombs would have actually contributed something sad.png

Overall a hugely enjoyable game. If I hadn't made so many mistakes I would wager I'd really given him a much rougher time of things!

Thanks for reading.

Awesome report man.

Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Sounds like you learned a good few things to really stick it to the silly loyalists next time too!

*EDIT*

On re-reading, I'll agree with you. That first turn lunge forward with the vehicles made life a little more difficult for you. Even with that over extension though, it was still pretty darn close.

The biggest thing I've found to assist with World Eaters is (quite incongruously) being patient with picking your charges. It's super fun to dump a bunch of despoilers and ruin someone's day, but make sure those charges are serving you best where they're going. You typically get one, maybe two decent charges in with a single unit, so it pays to make sure before you commit.

As you saw there with the over extension of the vanquisher, Drac and spartans. If you had left them parked back near the edge of the table for the first turn or so, your opponent would have been forced to come to you as well as not had a rear shot at your vehicles with the plasma-gun squad or range on your Vanq with the contemptors. Kheres assault cannons are nasty, but they're only a 24" range. Vanquishers have a 72" range with the cannon and 48" with the lascannon. Be sure to use it well! The best type of opponent is one who can't shoot back biggrin.png

Definitely. Opening up with a salvo of 4 quad-lascannon, 1 Vanquisher cannon and a demolisher round would have likely eliminated most of the Contemptors, leaving only the Assault Marines and Dark Furies capable of opening up any of my tanks, which can then quite easily just run away after disgorging angry world eaters.

Next time, his victory will not be so ... close. Mwhahahahahhahahah

Thanks all.

As a small update, it was actually a much closer loss than I thought. My opponent counted the slain Inductii squad as a VP, but inductii lose scoring and don't grant a VP when killed. Expendable assets baby!

The last two kills by the Veletarii and Quad Gun Crewmen were hilarious in the extreme.

That was pretty entertaining! I got a funny look off my Fiancé when I read that the last Dark Fury died to a violent "fisting"! But like others said I bet the Vanquisher would have been pretty nasty hiding further back but well done either way for only your second game :D

...Dont want to be that guy to nitpick but how did you make Corax Flee since he's Fearless tongue.png Did he Hit & Run out?

Yeppers. I mean technically he didn't flee, but chose to disengage.

You know, just how Russ "chose to disengage" when he ran away from Angron that one time. Other Legions always run away from the XVII :)

  • 6 months later...

G'day gents, I have another; hilariously bad game to show you!

World Eaters & Solar Auxilia versus 40k Blood Angels

1800pts

Before I start, I came to the store with 2500 points but nobody had that many points available; so I feel like my list was a little bit gimped from the get go.

Lists

Potato List

Legion

Legion Delegatus with artificer & power axe (Crimson Path)

Gahlan Surlak

1x15 Inductii, power axe & artificer champion

1x10 Inductii, plain

Spartan, goodies

Auxilia

Tank Commander

Veletarii with Demo-Drac

Vanquisher and pintle mount multilas

Malcador Infernus, chem munitions

Blood Angels

Librarian Dreadnought with murderweapons

Archangels Intervention - 3x 7 Hammernators

1x Furioso

1x Librarian Dreadnought with murderweapons (Chapter Ancients formation)

3x Vindicators

I rolled World Burner, so I gave my Infernus shred (we were unsure if the Warlord trait was conferrable on allies so went with it)

He rolled +1I for his HQ (Libbynaught)

Turn 1

http://i.imgur.com/ngp2n9C.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/tJvpsPd.jpg

My opponent conceded going first, as only his Vindicators started on the board. My first hindsight moment was that I should probably place the Vanquisher at the opposite end of my deploy zone, to force him to scatter to kill it; while it can continue to shoot hopefully ignored...alas.

I deployed everything in quite a close formation, hoping to not get caught out in the open like my last game.

I fire one quad-lascannon battery at the tiny bit of Vindicator I could see from across the board, inflicting a glancing hit.

The Angels pod in a Libbynaught and Furioso next to my tacticals (tragically both landing a direct hit on landing).

http://i.imgur.com/BlaxMGv.jpg

He then generates a pile of warp charges and lands Boil Blood onto the Inductii, noisily exploding one but failing to harm the others. The inductii vox the Angels to thank them for so much blood splash.

The Furioso fires a frag cannon and melta-gun into the inductii, slaying two. The Libbynaught charges and butchers four, but in their blood madness they just ran away for something they could hurt.

The pods fire a deluge of storm-bolter over the Inductii, for no effect.

Turn 2

The armour turns to face the Dreadnoughts on the left, while maintaining the front facing so the vindicator's demlosher cannons will hit their flare shields.

http://i.imgur.com/QYenH2v.jpg

The Veletarii deploy behind, to shield them from the demolisher cannons. I managed to deploy it just out of range of the Dreadnoughts, like the potato I am.

The Vanquisher tries to vanquish the Libbynaught but ... misses.

The Spartan fires the quad batteries and deletes a Vindicator from existence, for first blood!

Then the murdering begins...

The vindicators advance and fire on the Inductii squad, but scatter onto the Dreadnoughts! And...inflicts a glance and a pen, which stuns the Libbynaught.

http://i.imgur.com/VK8HcbY.jpg

He rolls for another Blood Boil on the Veletarii, but they successfully deny this. He then rolled for Quickening on his Libbynaught and failed it. Khorne is pleased, I guess. Libbynaught then charges the Inductii and wipes them out to a man, who succeeds in standing his ground and locking the Libbynaught in glorious 1v1 combat.

The hammernators begin to teleport in, with the first two scattering a brilliant 10 inches away behind some ruins, but the first scatters 3 inches towards my tanks because Khorne is displeased probably. They charge the Dracosian and unsuprisingly detonate it, killing 4 Veletarii. The remaining Veletarii go "ohhh hell naw" and run off the board after I roll 10 inches of fallback ¬_¬

http://i.imgur.com/bJixy4V.jpg

I weather another storm of small arms fire from various storm bolters, to no effect. It seemed I rolled really good dice against the most ineffectual fire.

The second Libbynaught arrives and begins stomping towards the Malcador Infernus.

Turn 3

Starting to worry about my complete inability to hurt the Angels, I fire the Vanquisher again and score a pen which shakes the Furioso.

The quad-lascannon glances a Vindicator.

The Infernus coats the cloest Hammernator squad with chem-munitions, killing...2. Because 5 passed their invulns.

I disorge Gahlan's inductii out and into the Hammernators in the ruins, drowning them in chainaxes and Gahlan wins a glorious challenge with the Hammernator sergeant.

The murdering resumes

The angel demolishers advance and fire on Gahlan's squad, both scoring...direct hits. The squad is deleted from existence. Khorne is definitely displeased with me.

http://i.imgur.com/eKB4t3i.jpg

He then rolls for Quickening on his Libbynaught next to the Malcador and Khorne shows his displeasure further - he fails AND perils, but he rolls a 6 on the perils table and instead of more attacks he gets armourbane. So the Infernus gets completely wrecked in one charge.

http://i.imgur.com/8CZz1ME.jpg

The Hammernators and other Libbynaught charge and blow up the Spartan.

http://i.imgur.com/32ClE3W.jpg

Turn 4

The Vanquisher...glances the Libbynaught, he tries to use the multi-las to roll a 6 to give some breathing space but roll a 5. Alas.

I conceded after.

So I got trounced completely and utterly.

Thoughts are:

1) 30k games under 2k points are painful

2) 40k formations are hideously scary

3) Vanquishers are .. well they just suck, I think I'm going to completely shelve them. For their price, one shot is just completely ineffective.

4) Pyshic powers are hideously scary (especially him getting lucky with Perils)

5) Crimson Path is entirely pointless against Blood Angels

6) Blood Angel boxnaughts have AV13 and it sucks

7) My AV was scarily lacking, I could barely scratch the dreadnoughts

8) Inductii were very effective at removing terminators, even hammernators. The sheer volume of attacks was sufficient and I didn't even need to roll my 2nd power axe.

9) Spartan quadguns are surprisingly good. Two Spartans are great assault vehicles but the AV output after is decent.

10) The demo-drac got wrecked without a shot, second game in a row. I think I might just drop the Dracosian in exchange for more AV.

11) Melee CC AV is hideously scary.

So overall, losing a Spartan, Vanquisher & power fists really hurt my ability to deal with the Dreadnoughts and Terminators, respectively. Two despoilers would have deleted two out of three terminators, giving me a huge advantage. Two vanquishers probably could have destroyed a Dreadnought a turn (for a hideous amounts of points..). The Malcador never really got a good shot off, but that hellstorm template could have reliably melted a bunch of Terminators, the only issue was the shields. Against regular 30k terminators that aren't Fists or Sallies it will be even better.

I had a great time as always and have learned from this.

I think I'll change my list to the below in response:

Removing the Vanquishers and Dracosian and replacing them with two laser vindicators, three grav cannon rapiers and a lasrifle section with a command section.  This would drop the crappy 1 shot AV of Vanquishers and give way more AV firepower.

I could also theoretically swap tacticals for combi-plasma Cataphractii for extra punch and chainfists. They would definitely have helped!
