Got my butt handed to me by Eldar today. This is what I took granted this is a rookie 30k player.

Centurion w/ artifice

Tacs in rhino

Tacs in rhino

Contemptor mortis w/ kheros assault cannons

Contempt or mortis w/ lascannons

Sicarian w/ lascannons and armored ceramite

He brought a lvl 3 psyker on bike

2 squads of jet bikers

5 warp spiders

5 swooping hawks

5 melta dragons in a tank

Any advice against this? Well be working our way to 2500. At that high I'm going for the iron fire. Am I severely handicapped playing 30k vs Eldar ? I come from a blood angels background in 40k

You definitely want long-ranged firepower to deal with them. Quad Mortars will be a good buy. Medusas will also do their part well to remove big chunks of squishy elves. Both units support the Iron Fire theme and both can handle infantry as well as tank (if you buy Shatter Shells for the Quads, although Siege Breaker with Phosphex is also a solid move).

I would not be discouranged because of a loss. Playing 30k at 1k points is very hard, especially against an army that is as efficient as Eldar. The higher you climb, the more trouble he will have.

Hey man !

My analysis of your list is that you have quite a lot of your points invested in line units (Tacticals, Captain and Dreadnoughts) and only roughly 20-25% of your points in your cavalry (Sicaran).

You want your cavalry units to have good damage and good damage projection (range and/or speed). The Sicaran is good, but it's not enough on its own, and the goal of your Tacticals, Praetor and Dreadnoughts aren't here to carry the damage but provide heft. Dreadnoughts have barely enough firepower for their points, but they are resilient against other line units (aka troops or troops-like units).

Try replacing one dreadnought by another Sicaran for example., and use them to press further advantage on your line units rather than hitting his support (aka focus on hunting the bikers). Don't hesitate to place them in reserves as well ;) Don't commit them to the fight until :

1) You know you can focus on your target with full efficiency

2) You can position yourself so as not to get killed by the return fire and force your opponent to deal with your cavalry than having to deal with his
