Split fire and interceptor?

When a unit has split fire (tyrant siege terminators) and under some circumstances been given the interceptor special rule, can the unit shoot at an enemy unit coming out of reserve but one model can split fire into other unit that was already on the board?

 

The situation came up during the week I didn't actually split fire cause I wasn't sure what would happen...

My guess would be no. Just reading the interceptor rules, it says you can only fire at a unit coming from reserves. Just because you're shooting in your opponent's turn doesn't mean you can shoot at other enemy units. Now I see no reason why you couldn't use split fire to shoot at two different units coming in from reserves. 

 

I could certainly be wrong though, it's an unusual situation I've never encountered before.

It depends on how you read it.

 

If Split Fire trumps Interceptor, then you get it as you say, choose any unit in range/LoS. 

If Interceptor trumps Split Fire, you cannot Split Fire. 

 

I believe it's a bit more in depth, in that they both apply, in that Interceptor requires you must choose a target for each weapon. Normally, as per shooting, all shooting must target the same, unless as specified (i.e Split Fire). However, Split Fire is still otherwise bound by the targeting limitations of Interceptor, which require it to be fired at a unit having "arrived from reserve within its range and line of sight."

 

Truthfully, Interceptor can be abused with the wording provided it has arrived from reserve, regardless of turn, but nobody plays that way, so that abuse can be ignored. 

 

But essentially, Split Fire triggers but must otherwise meet Interceptor's targeting clauses. Of course, if you choose to use Interceptor, it's only per weapon, so you can always wait until your own shooting phase, and then use the Cyclones (or another weapon) to fire after using the Combi-Bolter's, or vice versa.
