Armored Company

Greetings all,

Was flipping through these forums, and noticed people weren't talking much about an armored company using the new'ish Mont'ka formations outside of some general threads where everyone was talking about all the formations.

Perhaps there was a thread somewhere, but I didn't see it during my cursory flip through the forums

Anyway, I'm wondering; has anyone tried out an armored company-styled list using these new formations, or is the meta far too aggressive to even contemplate using tanks?

If you have, what have your experiences been?

I was giving it some thought, and was thinking of maximizing the number of chassis on the board; resulting in greater target saturation. This means possibly no sponsons on most of the Leman Russ variants (although I'm contemplating heavy bolter sponsons to help against weapon destroyed).

Thanks!

It probably has something to do with the fact that the Cadian Battlegroup from Mont'ka is all but unplayable under 2000 pts. In order to really have fun with the CBG, it's gotta be a 2500+ game. Most guard players, including myself prefer to use the tried and true CAD, because unlike the CBG, troops have ObSec. Mostly we just use the Auxiliary formations alone. CBG has very little objective secured, making it almost useless in a meta where Maelstrom is the most widely played.

The Armored company is a Tank Commander, 3 squadrons of Leman Russes, and an engineseer base. Regardless if you put more tanks in it, you still have 4 squadrons of tanks. That means even if you put 3 tanks in each squadron, you still only have 4 unit the opponent can shoot at. That's hardly target saturation. Now it's disgusting to deal with, but some well placed melta can still ruin it. As for sponsons, if you take ordnance tanks, the sponsons are a waste of points, even to protect against weapon destroyed. You'd be better off using the pintle mounted stubber for that. Also, as March is fond of bringing up, the sponsons make the model's mobility suffer. Personally I think sponsons look doofy, and don't really add anything to the tanks I field.
