HackedDuck
So I'm starting a small inquisition force to bolster my ad mech, I have been painting/gaming on and off for only about a year and have zero experience with conversions. However at my FLGS models that are not WYSIWYG are very "taboo" and I think I will enjoy creating my own, unique inquisitor/warband so I want to give the modelling and converting a go. Does anyone have any advice on this or know what parts I can use, etc? MoGuy
So, just to be clear, if I wanted to play in your group, I would have to buy say multiple boxes of Kastelan Robots, just so that I can use their weapons in any combination? That sounds really ridiculous tbh. I can see that the most popular builds should be WYSIWYG, such as Arc Rifles/Plasma Vanguards etc. should be representable. But even then I would find it pretty offensive if someone would start to bitch about how I couldn't use that Vanguard Alpha, because I gave him a Taser Goat but today I wanted to field him with a Power Sword. >_> Back to topic: For Acolytes you can use MT Scions or Chaos Cultists. If your group want WYSIWYG however, you'll have to painstakingly magnetize their tiny arms to hold different weapons. If I were you, I would address this issue and see what they say. For Daemon Hosts you can use CSM Possessed or just Imperial Guardsmen and slap on some Tyranid bits. For a Ministrorum Priest with Power Axe etc. you can just use the Inquisition Priest and give him the appropriate weapon instead of the Chainsword. DCAs and Crusaders have models so you are good to go there. The Scions come with some grenade bits that you could attach to your Inquisitor if you want to field an Ordo Xenos Inqui with Rad Grenades etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320956-wysiwyg-inquisition-help/#findComment-4350351 Share on other sites
The Unseen
Magnetization is your friend, you can buy 100 magnets of ebay for like $10 (US dollars), and they help tremendously. Most models have youtube tutorials for help if your a newbie. And then you don't have to worry, all your options are available. Inquisitor Fox
You can actually get a lot of mileage off of the standard Imperial Guard or Space Marine scouts plastics, as well as EBay or your used market of choice for things like Necromunda figures, older warband henchmen pewters and the like. As long as the wargear is right, most anything goes really. WarriorFish
A healthy bits box goes a long way, and if your group is so stuck up about pure WYSIWYG then I'm sure they will gladly volunteer their bits to help you accurately represent weaponry It's not a huge issue though, as even by RAW WYSIWYG is quite flexible especially with many of the various Inquisition set ups. Bolters are bolters yes, but almost anything can be a CCW or shield for example. Daemonhosts could literally be almost anything, even down to a normal looking model! HackedDuck
I agree it's a stupid rule to have EVERYTHING wysiwyg but I can see where they are coming from as it can get confusing for the other person, however it's probably just the owner trying to sell more kits. Anyway thanks for the advice everyone I have some old cultists that I may try to stick storm bolters on for acolytes and I am going to try to pick up the forge world inquisitor and run him as a normal inquisitor as they said this was okay. Mud Duck
Dark Angels termy storm bolters work with 'normal' human sized models. A touch on the bulky side, but I think that it works. And there easy/ cheap to get hold of Empire Flagellants are another kit that you should look into. They work well as bases for priests, phykers, possessed, acolytes, scribes, heck most of warband can use the bodies (or parts of), and all can use the bits. IG squads and command boxes. Either Cadian or Cattachan, it's down to how you like the look. These (especially the command box) are good for bits and weapons. Chaos Warriors, A bit of sanding and they make cheap Crusaders. A couple of different arms and another head, bam! Inquisitor! Dark Eldar Wytches, Death Cultists. Mix in some arms off DE Wracks (cool blades IMHO) or even mix and match some Witch Elves, Remember to trim those ears! Skaven warriors and or plague priest. The bodies are good bases for mutants/ dregs or tech priest/ jokeru stand in (not a fan of the orange monkey) DE Wracks (junior inquisitor), the new Dwarf kits (fan of the helmeted heads) grave ghouls (arco flagellants with some techy bits added), Orges for the sevitors. Skittarii, love the bits from both of the kits, ruststalkers and the normal troop one. Fun Weapons, those neat claw hands, the gasmack heads (look good on the DE witches/ DCAs) techy heads and torsos, mechanical legs and arms, these are the kits at keep giving. Harlequins, can be used as bases for DCA, but I'm thinking that a better use would be straight up Assassins, you've the visual movement of the base and some of the weapons look to be easily converted to those of the Shapeshifter and Berserker types (forgot the names) The one thing that I fined the I'm go most/completely non-GW is servo skulls. I'm not a fan, too small and not big on the idea of flying skulls, I did however find some old Mordhiem pitbullish dogs, to which I added a handler (a IG fig) and Bob is my Uncle. Well actuality my Sister's cat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/320956-wysiwyg-inquisition-help/#findComment-4351270 Share on other sites
Nicodemus Doloroso
Good post, Mud Duck, lots of good ideas there. One thing to keep in mind concerning WYSIWYG -- when it comes to acolytes, all you need to comply with WYSIWYG is a recognizably human model, with weaponry that is clearly a bolter/storm bolter/etc. So you can really use any human model you want that matches the aesthetic you like, from WFB Empire or Bretonnian models (although the latter will not exist any more quite soon), to Cadians or Catachans, to Chaos cultists. Same with the Inquisitor, just needs to be a human with the appropriate armour, be it carapace armour or power armour. Now, your selection of power armoured models is fairly limited if you want to go with "non-augmented human" size. There's basically the Sister of Battle range if you want a female inquisitor, or Solomon Lok from Forgeworld and that's about all I can think of. That said, I'd think most guys would be okay with a space marine model. You could try older Space Marine models ... I've noticed that my old-school pewter Grey Knights that I purchased around 2010 are TINY compared to modern space marine models. So they could easily pass for a regular human in power armour.
