Word bearers painting input required

So I'm at the point where I'm approaching 4k with my word bearers and only have lorgar painted. It's time to start putting some red through my airbrush but can't settle on which.

Like the idea of silver base then fw Angron red clear paint and a wash. Im interested to hear what other people are using

I'd love to see a write up of your technique captain. I love your red and would like to paint my own WB the same way.

Alright here we go, I managed to find some wip pics of my red test model, so I'll include those as well.

 - Prime black.

- Airush Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium(77.711) from the top, down to about 90° creating natural shadows.

- Airbrush Vallejo Metal Color Pale Burnt Metal(77.704) on the most prominent areas, most extreme highlights.

(Sadly my phone camera can't really distinguish this pic from the last one..)

- Airbrush Tamiya Clear Red all over. The intensity of the red depends on the thickness of the coat of the clear red. (For example the left thigh in the following picture.)

I usually dilute it 60-40 paint-thinner

(Optional) - Airbrush Citadel Druchii Violet in the deepest shadows.

- Airbrush a clear varnish on, if you want to apply decals do it after the clear coat and coat them with clear varnish as well.

- Apply a liberal oilwash using Vandyke Brown (I happen to use the Rembrandt brand)

After that you can apply weathering etc.

I can not recommend Vallejo Metal Color enough for airbrush users, they don't need any thinning and go on very smooth in my experience.

It might seem like a lot of steps, but you go through them quickly, and theres no edge highlighting etc to be done.

If anything isn't clear just ask!

edit: forgot to add, I like to use satin varnish once the entire model is done, knocks down the shine a lot. (I don't actually have satin varnish, but just mix gloss and matt 50-50)
