ElectricPaladin
I got bored and started writing some lists for Solar Auxilia. These lists look like a lot of fun. The question is, will they win me any games? I mean, I'm not a super cutthroat player, but I like to win once in a while. Be very careful. If you tell me that these lists are any good, I might have to start adding Solar Auxilia to my collection... At 2k, with the Leviathan FOC:+++ Solar Auxilia Leviathan 2k (2000pts) +++++ Solar Auxilia (Leviathan) +++ Lord of War +Auxilia Stormlord Super-heavy Assault Tank [Armoured Ceramite, Side sponson with one Lascannon and one twin-linked Heavy bolter]++ Solar Auxilia (Allied Detachment) +++ HQ +Auxilia Tank Commander+ Elites +Auxilia Medicae Detachment [4x Medicae Orderly]+ Troops +Auxilia Infantry TercioAuxilia Flamer SectionSergeant [Melta Bombs]Veletaris Storm Section [Power Axes]Prime [Power Axe]Veletaris Storm SectionPrime [Melta Bombs]Auxilia Infantry TercioAegis Defence Line [Quad Gun]Auxilia Lasrifle SectionSergeant [Melta Bombs, Troop Master]+ Fast Attack +Auxilia Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighter [battle Servitor Control, Twin-linked Autocannon, 2x Two Kraken penetrator heavy missiles]+ Heavy Support +Auxilia Leman Russ Assault SquadronAuxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]Created with BattleScribe And at 2.5k with a "normal" FOC:+++ New Roster (2500pts) +++++ Solar Auxilia (Age of Darkness) +++ HQ +Auxilia Tank CommanderLegate Commander [Artificer Armour, Cyber-familiar, Lord Marshal, Melta Bombs]+ Troops +Auxilia Infantry TercioAuxilia Flamer SectionSergeant [Melta Bombs]Veletaris Storm SectionPrime [Melta Bombs]Veletaris Storm Section [Power Axes]Prime [Power Axe]Auxilia Infantry TercioAegis Defence Line [Quad Gun]Auxilia Lasrifle SectionSergeant [Melta Bombs, Troop Master]+ Elites +Auxilia Medicae Detachment [4x Medicae Orderly]Enginseer Auxillia [Adept, Adept, Adept, 4x Servo-automata]+ Fast Attack +Auxilia Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighter [battle Servitor Control, Ground-tracking Auguries, Ramjet Diffraction Grid, Twin-linked Missile Launcher with Rad Missiles, 2x Two Kraken penetrator heavy missiles]+ Heavy Support +Auxilia Leman Russ Assault SquadronAuxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]+ Lord of War +Auxilia Stormlord Super-heavy Assault Tank [Armoured Ceramite, Side sponson with one Lascannon and one twin-linked Heavy bolter]Created with BattleScribe Thoughts? ElectricPaladin
A Tank Commander in a Primary Detachment has Support Officer. He can only be a compulsory selection in an Allied Detachment. Right. In the first list, he's the compulsory HQ, but the Solar Auxilia are an allied detachment attached to a Leviathan primary detachment. In the second, I've got a legate commander to be my compulsory HQ, while the tank commander is just there to buff up the shadowlord. Slips
That wasn't all that clear so I didn't catch that :p I will say that you're very much putting you're whole army into a literal eggs in one basket type deal with your only real long ranged firepower being the Stormlord and your tank busting coming from the Demolisher Russes and Primaris pretty much exclusively. And since your Demolishers are all in a single squadron, unless they have PMS, they're only shooting at a single target. If those get taken out, then you have no real means of dealing with Av13 or higher what with the Vulcan being S6. I'd honestly go for a Stormsword and take Dracosans w/ Demolisher Cannons for your Troops Choices instead. Something like: +++ Solar Aux (2500pts) +++ ++ Solar Auxilia (Age of Darkness) (2500pts) ++ + HQ (340pts) + Auxilia Tactical Command Section (285pts) ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] Auxilia Tank Commander (55pts) + Troops (660pts) + Auxilia Infantry Tercio (330pts) ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] ··Veletaris Storm Section ····Prime [Melta Bombs] Auxilia Infantry Tercio (330pts) ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] ··Veletaris Storm Section ····Prime [Melta Bombs] + Fast Attack (370pts) + Auxilia Leman Russ Strike Squadron (370pts) ··Auxilia Leman Russ Vanquisher [Lascannon] ··Auxilia Leman Russ Vanquisher [Lascannon] + Heavy Support (620pts) + Auxilia Malcador Infernus Special Weapons Tank (310pts) [Armoured Ceramite, Chemical Ammunition] Auxilia Malcador Infernus Special Weapons Tank (310pts) [Armoured Ceramite, Chemical Ammunition] + Lord of War (510pts) + Auxilia Stormsword Super-heavy Tank (510pts) [Armoured Ceramite] Though it might not be what you're looking for. ElectricPaladin
Good points... Hm... I've got to admit, a lot of the draw is the idea of the stormlord. In fact, it was stumbling across the rules for the Auxilia stormlord while flipping through the books that got my started. It's this huge, super-heavy transport just barreling down the field shooting hot death in every direction... it sounds like a lot of fun. If my fascination with the Solar Auxilia is based on falling for a non-viable lord of war, I'll probably skip it. Slips
Its not that its non-viable its just you might not be making the best use of it. What about this? +++ Stormlord (2500pts) +++ ++ Solar Auxilia (Age of Darkness) (2500pts) ++ + HQ (340pts) + Auxilia Tactical Command Section (285pts) ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] Auxilia Tank Commander (55pts) + Troops (750pts) + Auxilia Infantry Tercio (325pts) [Veletaris Storm Section] ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] Auxilia Infantry Tercio (325pts) [Veletaris Storm Section] ··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Flare Shield] Auxilia Infantry Tercio (100pts) [Auxilia Lasrifle Section] + Elites (150pts) + Enginseer Auxillia (150pts) [6x Grenade Launcher, 6x Servo-automata] ··Adept [Graviton Gun] + Fast Attack (350pts) + Auxilia Leman Russ Strike Squadron (350pts) [Auxilia Leman Russ Vanquisher, Auxilia Leman Russ Vanquisher] + Heavy Support (395pts) + Auxilia Leman Russ Assault Squadron (200pts) [Auxilia Leman Russ Executioner] Auxilia Leman Russ Assault Squadron (195pts) [Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher] + Lord of War (515pts) + Auxilia Stormlord Super-heavy Assault Tank (515pts) [Armoured Ceramite] The Auxilia Grenade Lauchers have a 24" Haywire Shell and the Adepts Graviton Gun is also haywire meaning 7 Haywire Shots a turn coming from the Stormlord if within 18" of a Target. And with 20 Shooting Slots from the vehicle you can still fire all 10 Flamers and 3 Lasrifles to boot. Or, if infantry is all thats in range, 20 Lasrifles. 1 LR Executioner for 3 S7 Ap2 non Gets Hot Blasts 1 LR Demo since It was 5pts cheaper than an Executioner 2 Vanquishers for 2 S8 Ap1 Armorbane Shots to deal with even more AV 3 Dracosans with Demolisher Cannons for a grand total of 4 S10 Ap2 Blasts. ElectricPaladin
It's come to my attention that this list probably wouldn't work the way I want it to, since you probably can't assault out of a stormlord (there's a whole thread about it, it's complicated, but I'm basically convinced). So, here's another permutation, inspired by Slipstreams's post above.+++ Solar Auxilia Stormlord (2500pts) +++++ Solar Auxilia (Age of Darkness) +++ HQ +Auxilia Tactical Command Section [2x Grenade Launcher]Auxilia Tank Commander+ Troops +Auxilia Infantry Tercio [Auxilia Lasrifle Section]··Auxilia Flamer Section····Sergeant [Melta Bombs]Auxilia Infantry Tercio··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Dozer Blade, Flare Shield]··Dracosan Armoured Transport [Armoured Ceramite, Demolisher Cannon, Dozer Blade, Flare Shield]··Veletaris Storm Section [Nuncio-vox]····Prime [Melta Bombs]··Veletaris Storm Section [Nuncio-vox]····Prime [Melta Bombs]+ Elites +Enginseer Auxillia [4x Grenade Launcher, 4x Servo-automata]··Adept [Graviton Gun]+ Fast Attack +Auxilia Primaris-Lightning Strike Fighter [battle Servitor Control, Ground-tracking Auguries, Ramjet Diffraction Grid, Twin-linked Missile Launcher with Rad Missiles, 2x Two Kraken penetrator heavy missiles]+ Heavy Support +Auxilia Leman Russ Assault Squadron··Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]Auxilia Leman Russ Assault Squadron··Auxilia Leman Russ Demolisher [Armoured Ceramite, Dozer blade, Lascannon]+ Lord of War +Auxilia Stormlord Super-heavy Assault Tank [Armoured Ceramite, Side sponson with one Lascannon and one twin-linked Heavy bolter, Super-heavy Command Tank]Created with BattleScribe Part of the idea was to buy fewer dracosians - those bastards are expensive! - but the spirit is the same. Spread my eggs out, make sure that the firepower coming out of the back of the stormlord is specialized in doing what the stormlord can't (ie. lots of haywire shots) while still putting a scoring unit in there. I kept the flamer section because I still think that 10d3 automatic flamer hits in Overwatch will go a long way to preventing some cheeky jerk with a chainfist from ruining my day! I'll be back later with the 2k Leviathan force org version. Because it entertains me to put a storm lord in a list that's too small for it. ElectricPaladin
Say, while I'm asking questions about the Solar Auxilia... does anyone know why the Malcador Defender is listed on Forgeworld's web site as an Auxilia tank even though I can't find it in any of the Auxilia army lists? Slips
Its just a loadout variant of the Standard Malcador Tank by taking a Demolisher Cannon on the Hull, really. You probably wont be using the Heavy Bolter Loadout nor the Lascannons so yeah...
