Alternative Jokero Models

Recommended Posts

I am interested in alternatives as well. The rules are cool and all but... they are censored.gif Space Apes. 40K is full of grimdark stuff and we get Space Apes?! I can appreciate the humour but it just looks ridiculous to put a censored.gif orange ape next to a grizzled no-nonsense Inquisitor!

Tech-Priests are also out of the question, since their models are... well, Tech-Priest. I would love to have some robot with a lot of mechandrites and tools in his arms. Heck, even some kind of Cyborg Ape would do, as long as it doesn't look so freaking goofy as the orange furballs...

There was a thread on this last year where a bunch of ideas were thrown around for alternative Jokaero models: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297309-jokaeros/

Personally, I don't mind the Jokaero models myself. Not everything has to be super grimdark, plus they do seem to have some sort of implants surgically attached to their bodies, so that's sort of grimdark. They are a funky, unique model, but as with all things inquisition, nothing forces you to use the model if you don't like it. In the linked thread, I gave a few ideas here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297309-jokaeros/?p=3825524

Implants aren't inherently grimdark (otherwise an uncle of mine and his pace-maker would be considered grimdark which is actually kind of funny since he is a pretty nice guy). Jokaeros enhance themselves with those implant, just as Space Marines do etc. A Skitarius on the other hand would be considered grimdark by me because his implants are not all high-tech stuff. He could have a lung just made of leather, which - whilst nice to have when one has to breathe in harmful chemicals - is pretty "low-tech" and its crude design adds to the whole "man has to become closer to the machine no matter what"-principle of the Ad Mech. Same with their tradition to replace their normal functioning legs with metal prosthetics.

Actually yes, it kind of has to. This is not my opinion but an observation. GW implements humorous elements and models into 40K but they are all dark and/or twisted in their own right. Nurglings look funky too but 1.) they tie in with the aesthetics of the other Nurgle units (which Jokaero models don't. It's not like they are wearing robes with =][= on it etc.) and 2.) they are festered with maggots and pimples. I actually don't know of any other models on the spot that feel so out-of-place actually. All other Xenos are either designed to look "badass" (brutish Orks, cunning Eldar, cold Necrons etc.) or are so removed from their animal concepts that they appear alien (Plague Toads of Nurgle for example). If Astra Militarum would get a regular turtle with a gatling gun on its shell, it too would look really weird, despite being funny.

Your proposition to use rats (hello Skaven) to represent Jokaeros is really good! I'll try to get my hands on a few Skaven models and kit bash them with stuff I have flying around here. The Green Stuff tube maker is really helpful to make mechandrites so it should be fairly easy to outfit the rats with appropriate weaponry. :D

I used to have a small Mass Effect themed Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and Henchmen squad (with Vindicare Kroot Garrus) that used a poorly converted Earth caste tau (and drone) to count as a Jokero (Mordian). I had trouble making them shorter without butchering the model.

I was kicking myself when i saw the Death marks come out for how awesome a Legion Vindicare would be.

I don't know where they are at, I've lost them in the move the entire tacklebox they were in.

See my whole problem with the space monkey theme, is that when the Inquisitor rocks up to the meeting with my Canoness, the first thing that would happen is a bunch of Celestians burning the said space monkey for being alien.

So as much as i want one to fit with my Inquisitor and her shooting retinue squad, it just wouldn't work.

Cult mechanicus electro priests are what I'm using atm. I mean if those little monkeys can fire a Las cannon why couldn't a mechanicus model do that. I'll just paint him in more inquisitorial colors.

Yeah they on a bit bigger of a base but I plan on making a squad of death cults and crusaders using the infiltration box so meh.
