Confusion86
Hello everyone! I am new, however have been a long time lurker and admirer of the heresy project logs in this forum. With B@C being released, i have finally decided to take the plunge and try my hand at a heresy army. My Legion of choice is the Ultramarines. I have no idea on the gaming side of 30k so i'm deferring to finishing the contents of the box set at this stage before ordering any of the resin models from Forgeworld. For my paint style, I have been an admirer of the damaged look (Templar's Crusade's Imperial Fists on youtube have been a real inspiration!), however I have tried to paint this on the ultramarines blue a few times before on spare marines and it just doesnt seem to sit quite right with my painting style. After some more tests, I have settled on a battle/field worn look as opposed to the damaged look which seems to fit a little better with my style. So on to the pictures. Please excuse the poor quality camera phone photos. Item 1 - Close Combat Contemptor Dreadnought This was the only model that i didn't paint strip and return to the work bench (for obvious reasons). I imagine him being on Calth at the moment of the ruin storm. In the midst of all the maelstrom of betrayal, crashing space cruisers and a failing star, pockets of the warp bleed onto the planet. This contemptors escort squad has been massacred, however having survived, he has moved to draw the roving bands marauders/cultists/word bearers away from the terrified and trapped civilians of the city. As if dealing with hate filled traitors wasn't difficult enough, he finds himself assaulted by the very earth he stands on. He is fully magnetised and has an arm swap from a second plastic contemptor. Damage was modelled with a razor saw, hobby knife and drill. Additional detailing added with styrene, greenstuff and spare bits. Item 2 - Test Cataphractii This is the scheme i have settled on. Painted with airbrushing, enamel panel-liners/earth effects and matte varnished to give a worn look. More to follow over the next few days. Comments welcome! Soldier of Dorn
The paint job on the Contemptor is magnificent. It reminds me a lot of the weathering on Hyena's old Marines Malevolent. The axe embedded in the chest is a bit funny looking at first, but still is a nice touch that shows what kind of hell this guy has actually been through. The Terminator is a bit flat and clean for my taste personally, but overall, nice work.
