Prot
Hi guys, I'm a bit stuck on what to do with the Cataphractii Captain for 40K modeling purposes. Now originally I had the limited Terminator Captain as a fun HQ option. I had him with a magnetized right arm so I could swap a hammer with a Stormbolter. However I used the special ornate icon on his shoulder harness to represent the Emperor's Protection in the form of an Eternal Shield. I never had an opponent take issue with this. This is how he turned out: With the Cataphractii captain I have no idea how to do this but I want him to have Shield Eternal for sure. I have no idea how to do this and keep the model largely unchanged. I confess I love the model, and really don't want to change it that much. Also not sure if the Fist/Chainfist should stay or the Combi should be swapped out for the Shield Eternal or keep a combi Melta? So I guess this is a multi question. How are you arming yours for 40K? And how are you executing this? (Suggestions for Shield Eternal is certainly welcomed.) Thanks. Soldier of Dorn
Well, if you want to go the same direction as last time, the CataCaptain has a pair of tilt shields on top of his shoulder pads that could (if you're already using the standard Terminator Captain's tilt shield as one) that could theoretically be used as the Shield Eternal. With the addition of a small wreath or something it could work well. Can't comment on loadout, though, since I haven't even assembled mine yet, despite ordering the box the day it came up. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321569-suggestions-for-the-bac-cataphractii-terminator-captain/#findComment-4368786 Share on other sites
Halandaar
I used the Power Sword arm from the Cataphractii Terminators sprue to replace the Chainfist arm; i figure a 10,000 year old sword could justifiably represent a relic blade! As for the other hand, I think I'll magnetise for Primarch's Wrath (to make full use of Slow and Purposeful) and the Shield Eternal. For me, there's only one shield good enough in the entire range to represent that; Alexis' Polux' Storm Shield. http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q797/halandaar/Warhammer/Forum%20Images/99560101415_AlexisPolux01_zpsavj18sdl.jpg Sadly trying to get one on eBay can be frustrating (and not without expense). You might also take a look at the Betrayal at Calth Conversion Ideas thread, there were a lot of great conversions in there that might be good starting points. Prot
Thank you for these ideas. I did check out that thread but almost no one does the Shield/Hammer or Shield Chainfist combo. I just have to figure out what shield to use. I'm starting to wonder if there's a way I could use this: This is a left handed shield from the Suzeran Invictarii or whatever they're called! I like the design, but it sits on a full forearm, rather than just a hand. I guess that means the chainfist is gone if I do this. I really like this shield, but I don't see any other 'cool' options for Utlra's. I know this Cata-Capt will probably be my 'main' HQ for competitive tournament play in my Battle Co, so he's gotta look good. Side note is that last Solaq Captain I finished was going to be that guy and I took a long time completing him. But whatever. lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321569-suggestions-for-the-bac-cataphractii-terminator-captain/#findComment-4371730 Share on other sites
Tyberos the Red Wake
Hi guys, I'm a bit stuck on what to do with the Cataphractii Captain for 40K modeling purposes. And how are you executing this? (Suggestions for Shield Eternal is certainly welcomed.) Thanks. I'm personally not a fan of painting something on the model and claiming it's counts-as wargear, but the Shield Eternal is such an iconic piece of wargear, that I don't think you even need to model it for your opponent's benefit in many cases. "Oh, you're taking a generic Chapter Master? It probably has Shield Eternal, huh?" I used the Power Sword arm from the Cataphractii Terminators sprue to replace the Chainfist arm; i figure a 10,000 year old sword could justifiably represent a relic blade! As for the other hand, I think I'll magnetise for Primarch's Wrath (to make full use of Slow and Purposeful) and the Shield Eternal. You might also take a look at the Betrayal at Calth Conversion Ideas thread, there were a lot of great conversions in there that might be good starting points. I did this. The shield itself cost $20 and comes with a right arm bracket mount. However, I wanted it left arm mounted, which necessitated buying a $2-4 arm and bracket from the IF Phalanx Warders. I ended up never even using the shield as Tyberos doesn't allow other Chapter Masters to be fielded. It's a great piece, because the Shield Eternal is specifically a golden shield crafted by Dorn, which this is the closest bit to representing. However, I've also discovered that this isn't a special shield, it's just a generic version of a specific early pattern that the IF used for their Storm Shields, except perhaps in a slightly larger form for Pollux. In the end what matters most is what you as a modeler are happy with doing. I can't imagine using a generic plastic Storm Shield from the Terminators or Vanguard is very satisfying. The FW character conversion kit comes with a very cool Tartaros shield but it's extremely plain looking. binary
How about this shield http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-04/111968B1-E59C-40D2-9F49-6DDF2E0E09A7_zpsny65yewt.jpg It's converted from Asterion Molec's shield and I've cast them for my EC breachers. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-04/C3BA148E-A565-4C13-8D63-6A26A8C3BC3B_zpsejdx1vqn.jpg Might be able to rustle up a spare if you're interested Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321569-suggestions-for-the-bac-cataphractii-terminator-captain/#findComment-4376606 Share on other sites
