Scratch builds - Rapier Quad Bolters

Aha that's quite cool! Personally I'd fill in the middle section to make it less Necron-y perhaps? But otherwise it's ace.

And yeah - crew just need scanner/ spotting/ comms gear - if that... Some different shoulders and poses could even work.

Yeah, This is very WIP (I actually just knocked it up yesterday, I was inspired by this thread!), I want to continue the shielding around the back a bit too... not sure what else to do as at the moment it looks like it all suits and fits in pretty well... Although I might also change the shielding over the gun for something more rounded to keep the aesthetics more consistant (EC would appreciate this kind of thing!).

If people could post up some pictures of the crew they've made for these scratch-builds that'd be awesome!  At the moment, I'm thinking auspexes, maybe a nuncio vox model (although that'd be better for Thudd guns) and maybe a Master of Signals...  Any other cool ideas/sources for scanner bits?

Right now I don't have any of them done and I really didn't plan to give them many fancy bits, just using some BaC marines. For my master of signals, I used a kind of scanner that came with the FW heavy bolters set (I instant-molded it to save the bit), that could be useful. The FW models seem to have some pouches, at least one augmented eye lens, and it seems a pointing hand is mandatory biggrin.png

The crew is something I've been messing with myself.

One great piece to use is the Cadian Vox Caster backpack. It looks very good and fits the aesthetic of the older Mk's of power Armour.

If not there are plenty of heads that have antennae/ bionic lenses and such that work nicely too. The Recon Marines in particular would make excellent crew for a stealthier legion perhaps! Or just the heads :)

Little boost because I just found these:

£11.99 each, which is a bargain!

They could conceivably be any sort of rapier weapon with a little conversion!

Surprised nobody has mentioned PDC gaming? They sell a modular set of turrets on ebay quite cheap. £20 for 3.

Good size, customisable and come with multiple different guns on sprue.

Can't link an image at the moment but check them out!

Edit: here they are.

I'm finishing off my first batch tomorrow so I'll try and get some wip pics in for you guys

Here we go:

Forgive the poor paintjob - still a WIP. Very much WIP...

My only major bugbear with the kit, is tracks. They're very.... basic. I'm giving serious thought to hacking them off and using third party, or gw tracks. Blood and Skulls industries on ebay have some nice heresy era ones... so who knows!

For now, I'm really happy.

Fun fact: The front panel just slots in. And the gun has the option to be mounted on a body, instead. So, with some tactical painting you can use the guns for two legions!

Took them to a tourney last week, and the general consensus was they were great!  Size wise they are similar enough in overall volume to not make much of a difference.  I mounted them on 50mm bases, but in hindsight I wish I'd have done 60mm.  Think I'll swap them over if I get round to re-jigging the tracks.

With the current loadout I use them for laser destroyers.  You get a mortar set too in the kit.  There's also a machine gun, which Im going to hack up and convert into a graviton cannons.  Just need some suitable parts to pop up on ebay.

Thanks for the reply.  That's great to hear on the validity front, these things are recommended so often that a half dozen would probably fulfill every role people keep suggesting for a fraction of the price!  Thankfully mdf bases are easy to come by for some extra 60mm bases.

Yeah I did wonder whether you'd use the weapon choice you've posted as a grav or las-des, the latter seems to fit better.  Will be interested in seeing any Grav conversions you happen to make from the machine gun - grav/las/mortar being the favourites.
