Battlefleet Gothic Armada

I've been enjoying the game myself, and yeah, Eldar are....something else to fight against.

Thankfully, nova cannons and ramming exists.

Biggest complaint thus far: referring to the Imperial Guard as the astra blahblah.

I really, really hate the effort to make that the common name.

Just finished the Campaign, all I can say is that I'm exhausted (IN A GOOD WAY), it really took it out of me because I felt so involved/attached to my fleet. Brilliant, brilliant game. Cannot wait to get the SM fleet so I can begin some MP purging. Will upload my final Campaign playthrough soon, upload/rendering it as I type :)

Yeah, this game is doing a great job. I actually try preserving even my escorts, and I lost my first ship earlier sad.png

I did perfect (no losses) all the way until the end of Chapter 3, where over the course of two turns, I lost a battle and lost one of my Battlecruisers. She almost made it out, she was so close to warping out... Nope, she's dead. Dang Orks.

Honestly, the Orks have caused me the most trouble. My only loss was to them (different battle), where they, within the course of ten seconds, destroyed every single component on a ship, but left it over half health. That's right, my Gothic Cruiser had more than half health, but had zero weapons, no generator, no bridge, and no engine... Then their freaking leader warped out two seconds before he would have died.

The next turn I went back to that world, and almost lost again. This time it was a planetary bombardment. Fortunately I killed their leader, and the rest of them warped out.

When I first ran into the Eldar, I had the most hilarious win.

Techpirest was in the middle of informing me speed is their greatest asset, before he could finish I put the flagship in a stasis bomb.

"Macrocannons to full admiral?"

"Open fire."

FASTEST I have ever seen something die in the game.

Match lasted less than 2 mins. 1:30 of that was getting in range.

ALSO the Nova Cannon - why is everyone raving about it? It just seems to scatter and if it hits it doesn't do a lot, does it?

Finally, escorts? What do people like? Personally I'm loving the one that has a lance on front. Because of the accuracy and range my escorts just continually pepper the enemy ignoring most of their shield :D

The Nova is an escort eraser - sure, it's not particularly precise, but destroying escorts in a single shot or stripping the shields of a cruiser just as you're about to enter firing range is handy. I find it particularly useful after the fleets engage and enemy vessels cluster around; micro warp jump into a good firing range, and boom, cripple a few ships at once.

As for escorts, I run the Sword principally once I got armour piercing ammo on it. Useful against every kind of enemy, unlike Firestorms which are fairly weak vs eldar in particular. Just setting them to engage at 3k and auto attack means they take care of themselves and do solid damage while I play with my bigger ships.

Yeah, according to lore there are captains that dislike the nova cannon and prefer torpedoes... I am one such officer... I never take the nova cannon.

With the escorts, I also prefer the lance ones. Like I said above, my fleet usually always has two or three of them.

I also don't really feel the power of carriers.

Gothic class cruisers though? I love them. I always have one gothic cruiser so when the shields go down, I rip through their armor.

At the longest ranges, I have had issues with the Nova Cannon, but once I started upgrading gunnery crews, at middle to short range, it's been fantastic... smaller ships take almost instant shield drains for targeting by escorts and the like.  I like to mix up my fleets a lot, but I've had a lot of success with the Nova Cannon.  It's even won me assassination matches at the death because it's so powerful.

I'm in love with the nove cannons. Even if they don't score me a ton of kills it always makes me feel better that I have one mega powerful, Ship crippling shot. I wipe out a lot of armor using them to full effect, So I believe they are worth it. Plus they can get a few ships under the blast.

Also the Dominator's broadsides are friggen amazing, and The Mars is one of the best all around ships in the fleet.

I tried the Gothic out but other than my pre-beta one it never seems to do that well, and I ended up replacing it with the dominator for it's firepower.

Another +1 for the Dominator love. I can also vouch for the Tyrant if you prefer torpedoes to Nova. I like both so I run both. Both of those cruisers are straight up nasty brawlers. The Tyrant is optimised slightly more for boarding actions and using its torpedoes (Space Marine favour and the lightning strike & torpedo upgrades), and the other for just straight up close range broadside killer (Adeptus Mechanicus favour, Macro battery A/P upgrade and armour/shields upgrades up to the 9s). They absolutely tear things apart when I play them together. Normally I support them with a Dauntless or 2 optimised for 9k shield stripping lances. Tried and tested combo.

In terms of Battlecruisers, still figuring out that one. I'm not massively sold on "Carrier" type ships, sure the abilities are nice (Probably more so when upgraded) but I've really noticed the trade off of firepower. I have one of each, and Overlord and whatever the carrier one is called, and to be honest I prefer the overlord. It's a beast and it tends to do really well regardless of engagement range.

I have a question about "Crew" - where can you see this statistic, and what does it do? I don't really understand it. I was looking at the Inquisitorial favour and it looks really strong, but I just don't understand what it does.

When you level up you have a crew button at the bottom where you can put a point into things like "master gunner" "navigator" "ratings" and such. The inquisitor one levels each one up by one point.

I usually max out on master gunner and servitors, but before I got the upgrade I retrained them so I had two points in those two each, and spread the two left over points out, so overall my crew was much better.

Dominator is life against Eldar.

I had a single one ram a cruiser, destroying it (boy do Eldar not like getting rammed), broadside an escort annihilating it and then nova cannon a cluster of various ships, destroying 2 and crippling a third.

Thus, was the ship re-named "Slayer of Spandex"

I just slaugthered the eldar in a breakthrough mission so completely that I barely had a ship down to half health. I should have brought my dominator for it, but chose the carrier one instead.

Opening shot with the nova cannon killed an escort ship and nearly crippled another one, and then I just stood my ground and allowed the toughness of my ships to out do the whimpy eldar cruisers.

The AI just loves the "kill them before they kill you" tactic when it comes to breakthrough.

I just got the Mars Cruiser and it is glorious. So much utility crammed in one neat package.

The eye of night escort mission was fun but the first runtrhough of it the inquisitor lost his generator on the first salvo furious.gif I may or may not have reloaded a save because of the RNG thing making it so unfair. Second time through I won with little problem!

I have learned to hate the eldar. If you don't make sure your ships stay together they will separate one and kill it in seconds. I have lost a battle cruiser in 20ish seconds to an eldar fleet. In fact I don't bother with anything smaller than a cruiser against them. I rarely loose to the dirty space elves, but they are very often a close call.

Ah, fantastic. Thanks for the clarification.

Was doing a mission where it said I needed to "get a ship to the beacon to call down orbital support to the planet below."

Which is all well and good until they failed to mention that Escorts don't count.... sad.png

Hahaha!

I just want my damn Astartes fleet, I heard they're going to be quite good a CQB, that's my playstyle :D
