NiceGuyAdi
I've got some Scouts which I'm planning on magnetising so I can swap out bolt guns for shotguns. I've modelled it so that the weapons drop on to the fist of each scout (instead of being interchangeable at the wrist). What size would work best for this: 1x1mm or 1x2mm? Ciler
I always use 2mm, but I magnetise at the wrist. I find &mm doesn't hold strong enough for the model to hold it's pose during gameplay. I think I'll have to remeasure to see if I can get away with 2mm without them being seen/me mangling the models. At least with the way they're posed, they'll have the supporting left hand to give stability if I do need to go with 1mm. Grotsmasha
Go for 1mm (round) x 2mm (depth), as depth will provide a stronger hold than a larger surface area. WarriorFish
I agree, 1x2mm is the smallest I'd ever go too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321678-magnets-for-marine-weapons/#findComment-4372676 Share on other sites
NiceGuyAdi
Damnit, I ordered 2mmx1mm (diameterxdepth) last night before seeing your posts. Well, if it doesn't work, I'll have to order some more up... Grotsmasha
They will work, but you will need to be very precise and patient when drilling their holes, as their larger diameter will less space between the hole and outside of the model. Tygwyn
I use 1mm x 1mm. I put 1 in the 'hand' and then stack 2 I the wrist to get a good strong bond. It's also worth leaving the ones I the wrist a little recessed and the ones in the hand a little 'proud' of the surface so that there is a mechanical 'plug and socket' effect to really tighten the bond up.
