Kaldoth
Hey all! So, I've been looking at expanding my painting abilities and trying some new techniques besides using standard acrylics and layering. I recently found instructions from Forgeworld on how they painted their Night Lords. Their scheme calls for Rub N' Buff pewter, a 50/50 mix of Tamiya clear red and blue in four thin coats, and then a final coat of Auto Air transparent blue air brushed over the whole model. The problem is I do not have an air brush, nor the money to afford one. So, I have a few questions: 1. Can you brush on colors from Tamiya and Auto Air with good effect if they are properly thinned? Or will it just end up looking all streaky? 2. If that is possible, what ratios would you recommend thinning them to? I know you have to thin Tamiya colors with x20 or isopropyl alcohol, but I have no idea what to use for Auto Air colors, or the thinner/paint ratios for either. Any insight would be appreciated! Cheers, -Kal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321685-tamiya-clear-and-auto-air-colors-regular-brushing/ Share on other sites
winterdyne
I'd honestly say no; you simply can't practically get layers quite as thin and even by hand, especially with a fast-drying alcohol based paint. You *can* do it (it's effectively large area glazing), but it is extremely difficult and requires clean, wide, soft brushes and a very even hand and very, very patient work.
