Epher
I have a quick question. I am working on a squad of assault marines and mustering up the courage to attempt my first transfer application. I have seen the Dark Vengeance Tac Marines with the squad number over the double arrows for the tac squad emblem. Is it possible to layer transfers so that I have the squad number over the squad emblem? Thanks in advance! captainblow
It's no problem, just make sure to do a layer of gloss varnish inbetween. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321800-layering-transfers/#findComment-4375610 Share on other sites
Carlson793
Yeah, you want to apply each decal as if it's the only one going on the model: gloss coat, decal plus setting solution, setting solution, gloss coat, repeat. Epher
Thank you for quick replies! I have the GW 'Ard Coat. So what does the setting solution do and do I really need it? Jalgar
The Ard Coat will work as the substrate you apply the decals to. The setting solution allows decals to conform to irregular and curved surfaces. Someone from B&C posted this link awhile back: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/winterdyne_tutorial3.pdf ***Edited for spelling. winterdyne
Decals are printed on acetate. If you imagine this as a sheet of plastic that you're trying to bend around and object you pretty much have the right idea. Setting solutions contain acetic acid, which erodes and softens the sheet the decals are printed on, making it easier to get them to fit snugly around whatever you're putting them on at the expense of making them easier to tear. I was looking at this thread yesterday and wondering when someone would wheel out my guide. Heh... every time I post, I wheel it out (see my sig). Epher
That is really good. I had to try to apply one transfer without the micro-sol and micro-set and it did not turn out very well. I am heading out tomorrow to get some and I will post the results after! Thanks for all of the advice! winterdyne
The most important thing in the guide is Do Not Expect It To Be Fast. If you're going for good results decals (on curved surfaces) take time. Theredknight
I had a bash at it last week, tried without (tough) and with (better) once it's on just takes a little time for it to conform. Then I blasted it with purity deal and actually looks painted on. Best bit of transfers Iv ever done!!
