Dark Mechanicum Test Model

Recommended Posts

So I finished this test model last night. Its my first test model Thallax using the color scheme I'd like to go with my Word Bearers, a detachment of Mechanicum Thagmata from Incaladion, and what would later by the Silent Forge. He's basically all done except for his base, but I wanted to gauge some opinion and see what people thought. Please let me know what you think!

Much appreciated, guys. I'll admit, the inspiration for the face mask was inspired by Emile from Halo Reach, one of the few things I really enjoy from that series. I'm really glad it came well, even though I ruined two white daemon mask decals first ;_;

Damn dude. That looks absolutely badass. Like Athrawes said, the Word Bearers decal on the faceplate is awesome.

Now, go do an army of these guys! :D

Buy me an army of them and I will.

I do really appreciate all the love, gents. Out of curiosity, does anyone see anywhere that I might have missed or doesn't quite work. I noticed earlier that I kinda put too much wash on the vents of the Lightning gun on the right side (though you can't see it in the pics) Just want to be sure I didn't miss anything or the composition seems decent enough.

In retrospect, while my original intent may have been to put a daemonic face on all of my Thallax, I don't think I will. Just for this guy alone I had to try three times (thus I had to scrap two daemonic face decals) but also because I think that if I have a full squad of 9 Thallax, all with the face paint, it might make it stand out less. So I think I'm going to try and sparce it out, have a few varying face paints, maybe a bloody hand print on one and then a few of course that don't have any. I think it would be better for the long run in terms of the squad. The point of the decals and Daemonic stuff is to try and make each seem somewhat individual. I want the ferocity of the Machine Spirit and their Bestial Protocol to stand out against the simple uniformity of the machine model. If I make them all look the same, would kinda defeat the purpose.

Very nice. Where did you get the corpse bit from?

Corpse bit is from the Pile of Bodies from Secret Weapons Miniatures... kinda expensive for what you're getting, but I've already bought two and I'll probably be buying a third at some point. These corpses are just too damn good. Here's a link and a pic.

P.S. Don't buy their Sack O' Skulls pack. In contrast to the Corpses, the skulls are fat, cartoonish, and kinda ow  quality.

They are nice, but they are also quite expensive, hrm......

As for the the face paint. I would keep it very scarce, maybe only this one in fact. Or perhaps for sergeants. You are right that it would lessen what is a very cool individuality if you spread it out.

My only criticism is the cabling I feel it needs a more plassteel look rather than the hum drum silver which isn't really even a deal I just thought maybe a darker wash?

I only suggest that as it sort of steals some focus from the face and for this model I personally feel that the face is the focal point especially with all your other muted tones.

Other than that it's an ace model and I love the way your taking this idea. You probably don't agree with me which is fine I just thought I'd shoot you my 2c

Good work as always brother
