Lord Asvaldir
I'm planning on magnetizing my weapon arms for my leviathan once it arrives, and I could use some advice since I've never magnetized anything before. What size magnets would work well for a leviathan, and can anyone recommend a model drill I should get for this task? Thanks in advance. shandwen
I have magnetized a couple contemptors before using the gw drill (too small but with a scalpel to "open up" the hole it worked). I used rare earth magnets that were 1/8 by 1/16. You could go a bit bigger but you won't need too if you buy good magnets. Also the elbow is probably where you want to magnetize it. That is where my friend who I had do my levi did it, and it looks good, he just left off some cables that really were not needed. To add: If you really want to get finicky as I usually do, any cables you need to cut to make it modular can also be magnetized. I do this with lots of smaller bits that tend to break off. Prevents tears and more work down the road. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322116-magnetizing-a-leviathan/#findComment-4385672 Share on other sites
Guiltysparc
I did my leviathan, it was the first model i magnetized. I used my regular makita power drill for the drilling. For gun arms - i did my magnetizing at the point where the gun meets the bit that glues into the shoulder. It doesn't require any cutting since its already a separate piece. I used a 1/8" magnet for that. For melee arms - you can't magnetize the power cables so you have 2 options...1 - don't use the power cables and magnetize at the same place as the gun arms. 2 - just magnetize the claw/drill bit itself. I did not actually magnetize my melee arm but those are the two options i can see doing. I also magnetized the head so he could look around and the middle of the torso so he could swivel. I would not do the torso again as i had a little trouble getting everything level and he tends to swing around when you move him since the top part is pretty heavy. Guiltysparc
This is what i grabbed... http://www.thewarstore.com/product68941.html ...since it was the first thing i've tried magnetizing i didnt know what to get so i got the combo pack. I used 3/32" ones on the nipple guns. If you get the combo pack you get a couple of each size so you can experiment a bit and see what you like.
