Kitbashed Assassins - Execution Force

Recommended Posts

As the topic states, this threat will be devoted to my latest project – a taskforce of kitbashed Imperial Assassins. I am planning to waste countless hours (which will ultimately take me years to actually finish the project, considering my goldfish-like attention span and judging from my recent performance) in order to save money. The other thing that motivates me is a challenge that this endeavour poses: I’ll be able to verify whether I’m at this point capable of making something out of nothing with the use of my imagination, available spare parts, cheap materials, green stuff and patience.

As the base for my assassins, I will be using Eldar Guardians. There are two reasons for this choice: firstly, based on my scrutiny of pictures available online, they appear to be of a similar posture to ‘real’ assassins and, secondly, they are dirt cheap. I already purchased 5 models that I’m planning to work on.

However, before I post any pictures (which might take some time), I’d like to ask for your advice. I want to make 4 assassins (one of each type) + a bonus, preferably female (because my army lacks curves!) agent. I’m quite torn apart between following the ‘rule of cool’ and building a second Eversor (which appears to me as the most iconic of the four), or a mix of the above rule and gameplay viability. As I’m leaning towards the latter, I’m trying to decide between a Vindicare and a Culexus. Both appear to be choices that add most to my force (Black Templars with no psychers). The sniper is pretty cool and seems to be a good damage dealer (I rarely play the actual game, mind you, hence my constant “appears to” and “seems to”), yet I feel that the abomination would benefit my force even more by harassing witches. So, without going into detail, if I were ever to field two assassins of the same type in one game, which should I choose? I’d be grateful for any and all feedback!

I really hope to keep this thread alive and post, if not frequent, then at least regular updates and can’t wait to start this project and see where it goes.

Cheers!

Rough pic and a couple of these are now out of date and have been improved upon.

Targetlock, thanks for replying and posting the pic. From what I can see, they turned out pretty cool. I particularly like the one in the middle, though I'm not sure which temple it represents. I'd love to see more detailed pictures of these. Cheers!

Here it goes. This is what I got as a base for my assassins:

I stripped most of the paint of the minis and, in general, ruined them.

However, I also made up my mind regarding the composition of my assassin's task force. It will comprise a male Vindicare, a male Eversor, a female Calidus and a female Culexus. I have already started some work on the last one. I'm working on the helmet. I'm not sure if the photos are any good and the work so far does not look great in real life, but I hope that after painting it will look okay. My idea is to show the female face of the assassin, so I produced a mould of the face of the only female minifigure I have to serve as a base. I attached it to a adjusted guardian's helmet and added a pressed skull-piece on top and some sculpted (though, it's a big word) hair. I also made the tubular thing on the side of the helmet. Unfortunately, I'm not very good with green stuff, so the results are pretty messy. Without further ado, here are the pictures:

And blue-tacked additional bits:
