SunsetNemesis
For the most part my models have been base coated with a citadel spray and then hand-painted. However, I am going to be base coating my models with a paint that isn't available as a spray, so I've been looking into airbrushing. I have a few questions. 1) Right now I have a citadel spray gun (purley a short-term stop gap, plus I got it for free NIB). From the advice I have received, I was told to get an adapter. What type of adapter should I be looking out for? 2) For my compressor I have been looking at the Sparmax mini. If I intend to be batch painting a large batch of models (think 12 Kataphrons large) if this good for that? If not, what should I be looking out for? 3) From my research I have also seen recommendations for moisture traps. Are these absolute necessities or just nice additions? Furthermore, will there be compatibility issues with the Citadel spray gun? 4) for the actual painting solution, should I thin down the paint with GW medium, water, or another type of liquid? 5) With the Citadel air cleaner, how much should I pouring in and when will I know the spray gun is clean? Tyberos the Red Wake
Moisture traps are mandatory otherwise the moisture in the air will interrupt your painting. They aren't necessary if your air pressure regulator has a built-in trap, but that would only be because you already have one built in. You're working with air, liquid, and humidity; you need a moisture trap. The compressor will always generate moisture when it compresses air. You can thin with pretty much anything. Most people use water, Windex, rubbing alcohol, or specially purchased or home mixed airbrush thinner cocktails consisting of various things like water, flow aid, rubbing alcohol, dish soap, etc. I wouldn't recommend GW medium simply because it's expensive, but if you want a super simple foolproof method, just buy a big bottle of airbrush thinner. It's an ubiquitous product made by hundreds of companies. You don't need to pour in a lot of cleaner. Just run it through the brush until it sprays clear. This is where an airbrush cleaning pot will come in handy. It's a small pot with an airtight screw lid that you can insert your airbrush into and spray all the stuff out in, then empty it afterwards. It also doubles as a handy airbrush stand. http://g01.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1r551LXXXXXb8XVXXq6xXFXXXx/ABEST-font-b-Airbrush-b-font-font-b-Cleaning-b-font-font-b-Pot-b-font.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322235-questions-about-airbrushing/#findComment-4389196 Share on other sites
