Airbrushing legion WE help

Recommended Posts

So I'm starting up a 30K/HH and have decided to do Legion WEs as my Army.

I'll be doing the majority of my armour painting with an airbrush and I'm trying to get some opinions on which paints to use. Right now my basecoat is Ulthuan grey and I highlight with white. The issue I was getting was there not being enough contrast between the two colors which made it hard for me to see how the high lights were laying over the basecoat. I also have no idea what color to use for my shadows.

Here is a very rough draft of what the armour looks like with just the ulthuan and the white.

I'm trying to get some recommendations on a good grey to airbrush the shadows with. I've seen a few people use VMA Dark sea grey and it looks pretty good. I'm also looking for a good basecoat grey that'll allow more contrast between the white and grey... I know a bunch of people recommend VMA USAF light grey.

Please forgive the sloppy pin wash... I was experimenting with that too and it seems it didn't quite want to flow off my brush the way I wanted it to. I think I need a flow aid.

i have zero airbrush knowledge/experience, so take this with that in mind, but could you do the base white with the air brush, then wash all over in a thin black and then do high lights with the white?  Thats the basic steps i use for my world eaters (base with corax spray, wash with thin nuln oil, dry brush with ceramite white).

I probably could. I actually mixed up the wash that FW says they use on their WEs. I just prefer the look of AB models over brushed models especially for lighter colors like white.
