The myriad forces of Inquisitor Rikard von Nearostaffen

Recommended Posts

It's been a long cherished dream of mine to collect an Ordo Xenos force, complete with Deathwatch, Storm Troopers and Alien Mercenearies. However, for the longeest time, my enthusiasm far outstripped my hobby skills and I never felt I could do justice to the army I had in my mind, so concentrated on my Horus Heresy armies.

Now with 8000 points of Sons of Horus sitting finished on my display shelves, I finally feel ready to attempt my dream army.

Here it goes...

First up are some WIP Scions/Storm Troopers. I've had these Kasrkin since 2009, so I'm glad I finally got a chance to make use of them. I couldn't resist painting them up in white and black:

I personally think they've turned out great, especially as I normally suck at painting white. I'm going to have 21 of these guys eventually. When I get some more time, I'm going to write out some proper fluff for these guys (along with the rest of my force of course!)

What do you guys think? I'll post more soon.

ps. let me know if the picture size is ok, it's hard to judge from my tablet

The Scions have been put aside for now, as I'm wanting to do most of the bases for the army at the same time, instead I've started on my first Deathwatch Marine - Brother Cassador of the Iron Snakes:

This guy is going to be part of either a Sternguard unit, or my 'counts as' Squad Donatus, depending on whichever I fancy using in any given game.

My plan is to build several Kill Teams, using formations to only field Veterans or models of higher rank in my force. It just doesn't sit right with me to use Tactical Squads as Deathwatch. If I want those later on, I'm going to paint them as Red Hunters.

This is what I've got planned atm for the army as a whole

- Inquisitor Lord Rikard von Nearostaffen (Ordo Xenos)

- Inquisitor Amelia Raukoff (Ordo Xenos, subserviant to Nearostaffen)

- Warbands for each Inquisitor

- 2 squads of Inquisitional Storm Troopers (Scions)

- Commissar Harris (representing an affiliate of Nearostaffen's taking command of the Storm Troopers)

- Deathwatch Shadow Strike formation (counts-as Pedro Kantor, 1 Sternguard Kill Team, 1 Vanguard Kill Team, 1 Land Speeder)

- Deathwatch Ravenhawk Assault Group (1 Sternguard Kill Team, Dreadnought and Deathwatch Stormraven)

- Counts as Squad Donatus and DW Librarian (from GW's PDF of the Overkill contents), as an allied detachment

- Probably a few Assassins

- Probably a few Harlequin allies, representing mercenraires and/or Nearostaffen's radical tendencies

- Possibly some Red Hunters to fill out roles which I'm not comfortable modelling as Deathwatch, like Tactical/Scout Squads, heavier tanks, etc

- Possibly some D-99 allies too.

Lots to do, but I'm loving the plans I'm making so far smile.png

It's been a while since I've worked on this. Unfortunately an accident involving a cat and a double-sized pot of green wash has meant I've pretty much had to start again with this project. It's a shame, considering I was really impressed with how both Ikas and the Storm Troopers were shaping up.

I'm not going to let that put me off though. Instead I decided to work on another Deathwatch guy. He doesn't have a name as yet, but he's going to be an Imperial Fist, serving in my Reclusiarch Command Squad:

The Command Squad isn't in my project plan, but I've been chatting to a friend who pointed out that the Reclusiarch Command Squad is pretty much a ready made Kill-Team. It's a whole squad of specialists led by a hero, all of whom can mix and match pretty much whatever wargear they want. I can also drop the formation into whatever army I want them in without having to pay any for any 'tax' units. Seems perfects to me.

Anyway, this is what the team should be when it's done:

- Chaplain with Combi-Grav, Auxpex and Meltabombs (probably a Mortifactor)
-  Red Scorpions Apothecary with Combi-Plasma
- 2 x Veterans with Stormshields and either bolters or Combi-weapon (1 Imperial Fist and one undecided Chapter)
- 1 x Veteran with Combi-Weapon (Ikas of the Iron Snakes)
- 1 x Veteran with either Grav-Gun or Meltagun (Chapter undecided)

- Razorback with Assault Cannons

I'm not including a standard bearer, simply because it doesn't seem to suit the DW's style. They're about convert actions, not drawing attention to themselves

I know at  first glance it doesn't seem to embrace the variety which Kill Teams are known for, but I have a few clever modelling ideas to shake things up a bit visually. Hopefully I should have them done in the next couple of weeks. I just need to find a good skull helmet for the Chaplain to make use of and I'm sorted.

I'll post more soon :)
