Noctus Cornix
BENEATH THE EYE OF THE GODS THE LOST CAROL http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac352/Noctus-Cornix/26e10666563bda32f2f3f8d222dbde1b_zps2a7uqlal.jpg Dear friend, take heed. Dare not go that path, the walk of the lost Saint Morne. It is a cursed black sea where the Emperor's light is little more than a flickering candle. Sorrow has gripped the land and its people weep for the foul blood spilt. Go not that way, my friend. Stare not into the Storm of Tears, lest you too be stricken by calamity as it has man and monster alike. The Black Eye of cruel deity lies at the heart of this storm as they puppet this tortured scene. I beg you, my friend, come not here to this forsaken land of the Witching Light, none here will escape it. - Transcriber Arcytal in a final message to Inquisitor Talia before the discovery of his body Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen. Beneath the Eye of the Gods is a series of narrative-based PBP Roleplaying Sessions centered around the cursed lands of the Mordant Zone and what nightmarish horrors that emerge from the warp right the Storm of Woe. It follows the tragedy and struggle of those who dwell within the Storm, traitors and outcasts like who seek to bring calamity upon the Imperium. The Lost Carol is the first Chapter of our tale and the opening scene for the Darkness meant to come. This thread is intended to provide framework information for the story necessary to know as well as set up characters for this game. This game is loosely based off the Black Crusade RPG system but you are not required to know the rules of the game or to have a copy of the book. The game will have no dice rolling but rather focus on the actions of the characters and their relation to the story as it progresses. This is a very grim and dark setting that will explore the nature of Chaos and the horrific symbiosis that dwells within man that links humanity to this occult malevolence. Beneath the Eye of the Gods is a tragedy, intended to show the struggle of man no matter which which deity you worship. Death is but an inevitable passing. You have been warned. More information to come. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322534-the-lost-carol-black-crusade-sign-up-thread/ Share on other sites

Noctus Cornix
Honestly, I'm mostly going to try and leave the options completely open. The fun part about Renegades and Heretics is that really they can come from just about anywhere in the galaxy from all sorts of lifestyles. I might ask for a bit of tweaking here and there to help tie in with the setting (which I will start putting out some info for soon) but I will leave it up to the group to really decide. His skin is relatively pale from days spent in the archives researching dusty tomes, however he has piercing blue eyes and glossy black hair. He has a sleek and toned body that he maintains with vigorous work-out routines and healthy eating. His sword is mostly for show and honor duels, and his Las-pistol an elegant and slim design. Background: Neovald was born the 8th child in a minor noble family on a back-water Imperial world. As a result, he was bound to inherit nothing from his family except education and breeding. As such, he was raised to expect a certain lifestyle, certain forms of etiquette and deference, and the ways of settling a dispute through dueling. Typically life of any son past the first was destined to the Military, Church, or the Schola. Neovald was no exception and he was groomed for a life serving the Emperor in the church. However, things did not work out exactly as planned. The youth’s time in the robes was rocky at best. His back still bears the scars from the penitent whips. You see the young Neovald was too fond of flash, food, and flesh. The more aesthetic church had little use for him. However, he was an excellent student and none could fault his ability to memorize the prayers and rituals of the Creed. After a few tough years and a number of embarrassments to the monastery and his family, Neovald was instead shipped to the Schola. There, the young man thrived. Not only was his thirst for knowledge met, but so were his base needs. Base needs that the young man could not seem to transcend. In Schola, Neovald became fascinated with archeology and ancient, pre-Imperial history. Using his connections, he organized and led many digs and research expeditions into the Wildspace near the edges of civilized Imperial space. He would often return with fascinating archeotech, ancient tomes, and other items pre-dating the Imperium in this area. After such expeditions, he would sequester himself away for long periods of time, to emerge with some interesting new research or a tome on his subjects. However, just as frequently, he would emerge from his research with nothing to show for his efforts but a desire the social circuit of the Schola and Nobility. Neovald’s expeditions and writings eventually raised the eyebrows of local Inquisitorial agents. His work often skirted the edge, and the lecturer seemed to embrace his dangerous and misguided reputation. It got him invited to all the best parties. The harder rival Lecturers and tutors tried to suppress his works and findings, the deeper he wanted to search for the secrets of those Pre-imperial worlds and their civilizations before the light of the God-Emperor. Lord Lee
Hi This looks really interesting but I have never played a online RPG like this, can you explain some of your rules and how this works timewise and what sort of player characters are allowed. Noctus Cornix
Easy-E- Hey man, it looks like you've got a pretty solid start here for your character. Again, we won't really be using actual game rules for this RP, more narrative and action driven than traits and effects. I should hopefully be able to start posting up more info on background framework, theme, and characters profiles. Lord Lee - i will happily lay out more for you as soon as I can. A bit tied up tonight and out of the house but I'll have something for you hopefully by tomorrow. Kassill
So wait, do we even need Character Sheets? And without dice rolling, what's to keep players in check or balance success from failure? I look forward to this one starting up. Neovald was for a more traditional style, but I prefer the narrative style. Noctus Cornix
Alright, its been a little while with nothing from me and for that I apologize. Things have been a little hectic on my end right now, more than I thought it would be. End of the school year at work and I've been running around having to do various things with that, trying to find a summer job, social events and acclimating to the summer. Things should hopefully start winding down within the week. That being said, I am still inclined to continue with this but its going to take a bit of time before we can actually get the ball rolling. This is something of a labor of love and I want to give this the fullest of my attention. The Mordant Zone has been a somewhat ongoing personal project to recreate the macabre and queer themes of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I have always been an fierce lover of what makes Warhammer that bleak and dark environment with gothic architecture and a society that is utterly obsessed with Death. I want to explore that and the Mordant Zone is meant to depict this. As sort of a brief explanation, just to give you guys an idea without going into too much detail yet before I can start fleshing out the information you need to know, the Mordant Zone is in the far south-east of the galaxy away from much of the Imperium and the Emperor's light. This area of space was named after the Lost Saint Morne who led the crusade in late M33 to claim this territory for the Imperium. Since that time the Zone, and most predominantly the Corovian Sector. Since his death in the final battles to reclaim the space, the sector has been made into an immortal effigy to this fallen Saint, twisted by his ideals and the macabre pontiff who stand as the seat of the Sector's power on the Shrine World of Solitude into a morose segment of space that delves into the macabre aspects of the Imperium that even some in the Imperium might find a bit disturbing. The Storm of Woe is a Warp Rift that has existed since before the Great Crusade within what would be the Corovian Sector but expanded in a great storm during the 36th Millennium, taking a sizable chunk of the worlds with it swallowed into its cavernous maw. The Pontifate of Solitude, claims that this is the will of the Emperor and the Saint Morne, punishment for the sector's laxity and has spiraled even further into fanaticism and a sense of somber mourning for their lives and the souls of the lost. Though servants of the Dark Gods, those who dwell within the Storm of Woe are cut from the same cloth of insanity. It is a dark and twisted land within, where life and death are practically viewed in the much the same regard. I want to delve Deep into the mentality of the people in this dark land and the nature of Chaos and its connection with mankind. I'm pulling a ton of inspiration and ideas from very old works of lore about Chaos and the Imperium and trying to bring it to life in a modern approach. It is my hope that I can achieve this. Xin Ceithan
So it's ancient secrets, doom and gloom.... Do take your time though. This sounds rad. Easy E
Neovald's background was for a game that was going to be set in the Imperium but not fully renegades yet. i can re-jigger it to make it much more "Chaos-y" if needed. Void Knight
I was thinking of a character that's a renegade ex-Imperial penal legionnaire. He's trying to go back home and on the way become powerful enough to overthrow the Imperial order on his home planet. The thing is, he doesn't know where his planet is and who knows how long its been, what with the mysteries of warp travel. Everybody think this is good character? Cryptix
If this is still open, I got a few characters up. One of them is slightly illegal (my old group had a house rule that you could swap any starting gear for one of the same availability, any skill for one of the same rank, and any talent for one of the same tier.)
