Snowdrift's Heresy Log

Hey, over the last few years I've started numerous heresy projects but rarely finish more than a squad before either changing my mind or drifting away from the hobby from time to time.

This time around I thought i'd log my progress here and see if that helps keep my interest for longer.

I normally lean towards the "good guys" so i thought i'd try a traitor legion this time, although as a compromise i'll be modeling them before they fall, mainly because i think my painting style just suits it better.

After deliberating much more than a grown man should about the colour his toy soldiers are going to be, I settled on either Sons of Horus and Emperors Children. They're both colours I've not really painted much of but really like. Finding it impossible to choose between the two, I decided, as the meme goes.... "why not both?".

So after trying a couple of different shades for each chapter colour, these are the two i will go with. They were just intended as test models so the don't have any of the extra pouches, grenades etc that i would normally model, and they're missing any chapter symbols. I'll probably go with the forgeworld chapter shoulder pads for the army.

I'm fairly happy with how they turned out, i know some people prefer weathered marines but the thing that draws me to space marines is bright armour and clean lines. I've weathered the bases slightly which i hope makes the clean power armour stand out even more against it.

Anyway, enough rambling from me, any critique is always welcome.

Thanks for Looking,

Mike.

I really like both of them! Will you be running this combo-force using the Shattered Legions rules or will you just have one allied to the other?

The purple for the EC marine is just stunning, I really like the highlights! I'm also a fan of the green, and you did a nice job on the mini eye of horus on the chest biggrin.png

The only thing I'm noticing is that there isn't much to break up the purple on the EC in comparison to the SoH marine, who has the aforementioned insignia and shoulder pads. Maybe adding a little white or gold would help make the purple contrast better?

Regardless, I like both of the models. You did spectacularly on them, and I can't wait to see more!

These are Flawless wub.png i understand the look your going for and wholeheartedly approve, it's either weathered/beaten up or pristine (of which i like both...who doesn't msn-wink.gif )

these will look awesome on the tabletop and the bases help with the "pop" factor too!

the purple is smooth and not eye watering (which some can be) decals/FW shoulderpads will enhance it even more so.

the Sons of Horus is my favourite of the two...may i ask the colours used to achieve this stunning look?...

my only wee gripe is that on the SoH his right hand highlighting seems a bit too thick (a small nitpick but it just stands out to me as soon as i look at him tongue.png )

I really look fwd to more outstanding work posted here !!!

Cheers Mithril

Cheers for the feedback,

@Jerichus

I honestly haven't given the rules much thought yet Jerichus, the plan was probably to just run a mainly sons of horus army with an emperors children allied group. I've only got the first two hardback heresy books so shattered legions might be something I have to look into.

I know what you mean about the purple too, I'm hoping when I start adding legion symbols and squad markings it should break it up enough, also anything above a standard tactical marine will be getting more gold and white embellishments respectively.

@mithrilforge

Yeah I think the combination of the purple and rich green should look really nice together on the tabletop in a in your face kind of way. I'm a sucker for garish colour combinations :)

The cour on the sons of horus is nothing special, it's just working with the "dark eldar" greens from GW, with the main colour being Kabalite green. I bought the forgeworld "official" greens but I wasn't a fan of the test model I did, just seemed too drab for me. The Kabalite green isn't a million miles away it's just much deeper and more vibrant in my opinion.

I can see what you mean about the hand, at that point I think I was rushing to finish it off, photos pronounce it more than the naked eye though. But it's something to watch out for in the future.

Thanks,

Mike.
