Almost Metallic Green?

Recommended Posts

If I wanted to do a metallic shiny green colour scheme for pre heresy Salamanders, how could I go about it using the FW and GW paints? I'm thinking of how they've done the Alpha Legion scheme which is kind of metallic. I'm just looking at trying ways to make painting Salamanders a little more interesting than straight green. I'm a beginner when it comes to airbrushing and such.

Silver Base and Green Shades/Glazes over the top would be the easiest and is more or less how Forgeworld does theirs.

The Alpha Legion was Silver base with Tamiya Clear Blue and Green in varying concentrations layered over it. You can always email Forgeworld about their paint schemes and they usually send them your way.

Are you look at the green knight on the FW website? Use lead bealcher, iron breaker, runefang. Then a couple of light coats of Tamiya Green (thinned with tamiya thinner). If you look in my blog/plog I've just finished a Sicaran using the FW AL recipe.

Depending on how bright of a green, Testors Aztec pearl metallic paints have a pretty nice effect. I've used the pearl blue, and I like how smooth it goes on, and it's flakes are super fine grain. Between the green and copper, I'm sure there's a ratio that will look pretty good.

Is this all done by airbrush? When you say lead belcher, iron breaker, runefang, do you mean three separate coats via airbrush?

I just tried to do a purple alpha legion scheme over a leadbelcher base coat, using tamiya purple in an airbrush the paint just totally cover the leadbelcher though and left little to no shine beneath it. I've tried airbrushing loads, I did some sons of horus and the paint came out grainy, my airbrush doesn't work very well so rather than pushing the button down and back for the paint, I had to unscrew the handle and pull the pin back itself to get any paint to come back, even when it's thinned down.
