Augustus
If a Space Marine loses a limb, in the novels (40k setting) it seems that they always replace it with bionics. Does this make them "less" than a space marine? Do they lose the speed/strength etc that comes with their biological enhancement? Is the technology that could grow new limbs/organs lost in the 40k setting? If not, how do the chapters that favor/implement bionics reconcile the fact that the Emperor created them along with the Geneseed and some chapters end up more metal-man than man. Thanks"! Grotsmasha
Basically the bionics are just as, if not more, sturdy and reliable. They are primarily chosen for expedience however, a marine can be back in action much faster with a bionic than they would be waiting for a vat-grown biological replacement. To the best of my knowledge, there is no negative stigmata associated with bionics among the Adeptus Astartes. Biological replacements would be much move prevalent in the private sector. veterannoob
The attitude plays a big part. To Iron Hands, the flesh is weak. :cuss it! :) To other chapters though not always so much stigma. One of the nice pieces one can incorporate into a chapter via BL fiction. DarKnight
Bionics are just a quick way to get Astartes back into combat on a prolonged campaign or crusade, the more tissue having to be replaced the longer it takes for them to get to 100%. I don't know if there is a time limit regarding cloning a limb and replacing it with flesh and blood but I imagine that window is narrow.
