Izlude
Looks like for October along with Guilliman in multiple formats. http://www.blacklibrary.com/Home/primarchs-remind-me.html Still don't like the art, not sure why but the eyes bother me. Wish NR was doing these. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/ Share on other sites
JH79
Seconded... though I've already got up on my soapbox once already about the "artwork" for The Great Wolf. I wonder if the rest of the series will all feature eyeless Primarchs? Is there any information on the release order for the rest of the series and what events they will cover? Really glad to see Guilliman getting the audio treatment as well a general Hardback release... better start saving those pennies! Dantay VI
My word, the artwork is lousy. Wish they'd let a better one do the pictures :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/#findComment-4404393 Share on other sites
Prot
On a personal note I'm really disliking the artwork in this series... as well as the glowy eye thing. GrandMagnus
Hmmm, I guess these are regular novels right? Not graphic novels (which would be really freaking awesome)? I still might be interest in them though, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/#findComment-4404490 Share on other sites
Sandlemad
Seconding the opinions on the cover, and I liked the Guilliman one. The preview cover that was just a cut down copy of Prospero Burns was better. Still, Chris Wraight doing more Russ is a good thing. Izlude
It is shorter than a full length novel. I have a copy of Guilliman, haven't read it yet, but the page count clocks in at 200 I think. Agreed Wraight doing this makes it worth the buy. I think it is a given he will write Russ very well (If Scars and Wolf King is anything to go by). I am more curious how he will handle the Lion. So far I haven't liked how the Lion comes across. I know this is Gav's baby but doesn't do him well (He does Corax better). Kriegsmacht
How was he able to lift Magnus over his head with such stubby arms? His hand stop at his belt. Poor doggy. :( Also had to laugh at his make-up. He's in a black metal band now? veterannoob
Not sure, but I would have suspected even a couple months ago that the whole series would be 50K words like Guilliman--but--given most of these haven't even been written yet BL might incorporate feedback/fan requests to commission longer books if we all ask. For anyone who would like longer books please do email GW/BL customer service to let them know that. They will pass that info on to the decision makers if you ask. Surely someone joined me in this effort Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/#findComment-4404651 Share on other sites
Taliesin
If the limited edition comes out in October, the regular hardcover is listed for January... that is not so long a wait for the regular hardcover. Still I am tempted... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/#findComment-4405501 Share on other sites
Kelborn
Though I'm waiting for this book, I really dislike the art. He just looks silly. Not even close to other marvelous artwork (and fan art) which was done until now. And definitely how I would imagine him. Sandlemad
That axe though... looks almost like a double-headed version of Angron's Gorefather/Gorechild. All the other details look like the FW model so it'll be interesting to see if this carries through. Taliesin
Yes I feel the artwork very much resembles the pictures we saw at Warhammer Fest of Leman Russ by FW. Mellow
I can understand Psykers having glowing eyes whilst using their powers, and I realise the Primarchs were potentially created using Warpcraft ... but all having glowing eyes would have got them executed as babies for being weird! karden00
Why........... Cant......... Primarchs........ Have....... Eyes........ Seriously, unless I am mistaken, None of the artwork is actually finalized, but if that is the case, why release any previews at all? If I were s Space Puppy (and I most certainly am not....) I would be very concerned by now. The artwork for Guilliman is clearly based upon his model by FW. If Space Puppys do not quite like the look of their Primarch in this art, beware, FW and these books seem to really work off eachother (I know my sample size is 1...but still) I'm getting to the point that I would almost rather have a novel about First Chapter Masters. The guys that lead the Legion before the Primarchs were discovered. We already know the broad strokes of each Primarch, why not something else, less beholden to the canon concerning Primarchs? (edit for addition re. CM's) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322728-leman-russ-the-great-wolf/#findComment-4405852 Share on other sites

Oooh, now that I would read in a heartbeat ! I've always been interested in the Legions pre-Primarchs, and despite us knowing of the Warhounds and the Dusk Raiders for instance, there has been very little written about them... However, we've already seen previews of Russ's model, and he looks like one of the best primarchs to date. Dantay VI
Dulan!! Awesome. A story where Wolves get their butts kicked while being on the winning side and their Primarch gets knocked unconscious. Another win for the Wolves!! :tu: Good thing is Chris Wright is writing the book, so it shouldn't be too painful to read. Dantay VI
Unless I am wrong, which I can be from time to time, or it is another piece of SW lore which is to be ret-conned. The governor laid a personal insult at Russ' feet, so Russ swore he would kill the governor of Dulan... The SW & DA fight together. Jonson scouts the fortress and finds weaknesses, but Russ, angry, wants to flat out assault the place. During the battle the DA decide to follow the Lion's plan, rather than e agreed joint plan and take the fortress. Russ & the Wolves are left at the foot of the walls watching as the DA take the fortress and the Lion kills the governor. Furthermore the Wolves flank is left exposed by the Lions abrupt change in plans and the Wolves suffer heavy casualties. Enraged not only at the loss of his troops, but losing face because the Lion instead of the Wolf killed the governor, he strikes Jonson and then the brawl starts. Which is ended when Jonson knocks Russ out with a low blow.
