100th Store Adventure!

Games-Workshop opened their 100th store here in the U.S. today and all of their stores were celebrating this weekend. The actual 100th store was like 20 minutes away from me, so a friend and I decided to head out to get that limited edition Space Marine Captain model. Sisters are my one true love, but my side project is Crimson Fists so I'm always happy to add unique Space Marine models to the list.

We got there 30 minutes before opening and were surprised to see a big line waiting for us!

Sadly, it wasn't long before opening when one of the staff members came out to pass out numbers for the limited model. They only had 40, and we were probably around number 60 in line. Sure enough, they ran out before they got to us. We were defeated for a moment, but a successful moral check later and we decided to call the next closest store (another 35 minutes or so away) to see how their situation was. The nice man who answered the phone said they still had ~20 or so of the models left and didn't have a line - so we rushed over there right away! They had 8 left when we arrived, and we both left that store with our new Space Marine Captain models.

Since we carpooled from the original store, we headed back that way to pick up my car. On the way back, we stopped by several other game stores in the area that we had not yet visited, and all were fairly disappointing (I've got an amazing local game store by my house, so the bar is set high for my visits to other stores). When we got back to the 100th store, we decided to take a look inside while we were there, since we left in a hurry earlier to track down our Marines. While in there, we heard one of the staff mention that, in about 30 minutes, they were going to auction off a variety of promotional items, including the standees they had decorating the store. After a quick stop at a local sandwich shop, we were ready to bid! There were a couple of 30th Anniversary Marine standees (they were like 9 feet tall!), an Imperial Guardsman standee, a Chaos Lord standee, some huge pieces of LotR artwork, a signed and numbered 100/100 print of the new Sigmar board game cover art, and the item and I ferociously bid on and won...

When we first arrived that morning, we saw her in the window and my friend said "that's probably the only Sisters thing in that store so you should probably buy it", not knowing that it would be auctioned off later. His words proved prophetic, as several hours later she was mine. An awesome ending to an interesting day.

PS: She was the second highest bid on item after the signed art print - bringing in more money than any of the other standees. Take note GW! Us Sisters players may not be high in number, but we are the most passionate the devout of them all! laugh.png

That piece of artwork can be DLed from GWs store support section in high res. I would bet the store did that and took the file to Copyco or whatever you have there and had them make the standee out of it.

I've got an 8x10 of it framed next to my display case in my hobby room. I tried to buy a poster off the wall of a game store in town, but the owner instead directed me to the page on the GW website that he got it from instead, which was cool of him.

Yeah, the space marine standees came from GW, but the other ones are ones he had made at a local shop.  They aren't cardboard like the space marine one and are some sort of plastic back, so they seemed higher quality.  I'm happy with what I got.

They have some good stuff in general on that page (just looked after your post let me know it existed). For those who are curious the image gallery (there is other stuff on the site) is:
