Starting with word bearers! Ashen Circle and Gal Vorbak.

Well, i'm finally going to make the jump to 30k and it's going to be word bearers!

I have some rough ideas of what i want to do with my army but i'm still looking for some bits of info.

I'm aiming to build an army to represent the legion at the time of Calth and afterwards with a big emphatise on the possessed legionnaires and ashen circle.

First of all, let's start with the HQ:

ZARDU LAYAK! why? because daemons..Now in his background he's part of the ashen circle but he doesn't have any of the ashen circle equipment (rake, jump pack flamer) Does this means that not all member of the ashen circle were jumping around?

The reason why i'm asking this is because i would like to have a tactical squad of ashen circles as well ( i love grey armor )

And this leads perfect into..

TROOPS:

During and after Calth, Is there any bit of info of word bearer chapters or units still wearing their original grey color?

ELITES:

GHAL VORBAK: As i understand they all got dropped of at Calth and left to rot and die, Argel Tal survived and created the Vakrah Jal. Is it save to assume they were equally possessed as the Gal Vorbak

If anyone has some info regarding these topics please share, sharing is caring;)

Thanks in advance!

Glad youre getting into bearing the word, about your questions, i think the entire legion changed their colours before calth with only the ashen circle really the only ones left in grey. There are a few exceptions for example in 'the purge' theres a practical recon marine wholeaves his armour gery as its easier to stay hidden.

Not all Gal Vorbak were dropped off at Calth IIRC, i think others still travelled around with Argel and lorgar throughout the shadow cruade. Argel Tal was never on Calth and the Vakrah Jal is a chapter he forged from the remenants of the serrated sun and other near-annihilated chapters from Isstvan V I think. The vakrah jal trained in the world eaters gladiator pits and they each had wrist mounted flamers. Thousands of Gal Vorbak did get left to die at calth but they were just random legionares i think.

Hope that clears stuff up happy.png

yes, thank you! now all i need to know is if there were any ashen circles without jump packs, i'd love to have a tactical squad of them as well.

I'm hoping to get a lot of mixed armor schemes in 1 army.

Oh, by the way: did you ever play with Samus or Utterblight..they seem terrificly horrible to deal with!

For mixed colour schemes id include daemons for starters, WBs being the only legion that can summon them. I never did like the look of Samus, withhis Daemon-Butt on show and all biggrin.png but saying that, they do look nice to use in a large game, another thought is to have recon marines and make thier camo cloaks green or something for a colour spot. and finally, is you dont like those icky Ultras, chop bits off em and stick them on bases/vehicles as sacrifices! laugh.png

Well, Zardu still has his grey armour even though he's given up his Ashen Circle trappings so I don't see any reason why you couldn't have more - they could be his chosen squad or something (I'd say honour guard but that's kinda the point of the Blade Slaves).

My Word Bearers army is being painted up to still show it's in transition from the original storm grey to the crimson. There's really nothing in the fluff that says otherwise, and it makes them more unique and characterful. I'm only doing it with Infantry, all HQ and Elites have taken on the red.
