Plaguecaster
Hey in my complete inability to stick with one legion I have recently decided to try black shields as they seem like a cool idea. What I was wondering is there any required colour schemes for representing a black shield force or can you just paint them as anything The main idea I am liking is a band of word bearers who were sent to Calth to die but somehow manage to escape (still working out how) they resent their Primarchs for trying to sacrifice them but are still loyal to chaos so strike out on their own acting as raiders. I just got to think of what colours they are Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322905-black-shield-colours/ Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
There is no set colour scheme. Think "Shattered Legions", but your loyalty doesn't go past the brother next to you. Slips
As long as black is incorporated in some way, you're pretty much home free in how you want to paint them. One of the Book 6 Examples is a Black & Red Blackshield. Xin Ceithan
IMO the defining Thing is to make them blackshield is to optically represent that they are unaligned. So essentially no clear imperial eagles, eye of horus or obvious Legion markings. You could simply "paint it Black " or just deface or remove the markings. If you use legionspecific FW pads, you could leave incomplete remains and paint them as if they were burnt away to the Base materials. I think the challenge here / with Blackshields is have them differ from their origins and represent their lack of established supply while still coming across as a unified, "New" force while in Shattered Legion forces you can clearly Tell their origin and loyalities while bring more optically mixed up (still clearly Salamanders and Raven Guard fighting together where your idea serms closer to warband of former Word Bearers) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322905-black-shield-colours/#findComment-4410215 Share on other sites
Charlo
Literaly anything. They don't even need to be black. They could have all just chosen a new colour to fly under and go with that. One of the examples in Book 6 is bare ceramite and purple, no black at all: https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/331859066273588778/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/322905-black-shield-colours/#findComment-4410402 Share on other sites
