Deredero Tactics?

Hey I don't know if there is a existing thread for this and apologise if there is but I was just wondering how people use them and what loadout works best as I have an unassembled one which I have been planning on adding to a iron Hands army or a Chymeriae based Black Shields force. So do you go Plasma or cannon and if so do you take the carapace options (missiles or Pavise)

Cheers

I take the auto and missiles. Good at both anti air and mild anti tank duties, can also be called upon to shoot some regular marines if you need to, and I take chest heavy bolters for that reason.

If you're gonna face troop heavy armies the plasma is probably better for the elite options you'll likely be facing.

If you would be to use the pavaise in save boosting fashion with some terminators I'd still take the autocannon to pop enemy transports, but I'd take the heavy flamers in the chest mount, due to probably being closer to the enemy than you might want your deredeo to be

The plasma, imo, is really not worth it at all.

There are other options that can dish out more numerous, cheaper or effective Templates.

The auto cannons are great for covering light - medium tanks, flyers and also still having a decent ability to deal with infantry alongside the missiles.

I run Auto Cannons, missiles, Heavy bolters. If you're ever in range to use flamers on a Deredeo something has probably gone wrong lol

What he says.

I quite like the plasma, it certainly has a place too. The ap2 is a welcome addition and getting a large blast of plasma is pretty strong. Because it still gets sky fire it has more of a "one shot" flyers game.

Goes well if you have a prevace and walk it up the field with some Cataphracti

It's a lot of points to spend, imo.

Even with the boosted invul, I just need to glance the Deredeo 6 times as it walks towards me then the Cataphractii are back to a 4+, and are left to walk around slowly.

This tactic could work well with Tyrant Siege or Fulmentarus Terminators - but they all have to be bunched up 3" from the Deredeo to gain the boosted invul...

Don't get me wrong, the plasma CAN work, especially if a deepstriking infantry unit scatters into your line of sight, but it's not as immediately useful or reliable throughout a whole game. It does look very cool, however.

I just deploy mine fairly forward to provide a aa bubble as I advance. I run it dakka, rockets and flamers

I'm just theory-crafting as I don't own a deredero as of now, but for AA coverage wouldn't pushing it foward seriously cut down on boarf coverage? I mean his guns have a 45º arc to intercept, so pushing him foward invites flyers to avoid him, or worse yet, blow him appart first.

Yup - his firing arc is actually a little pitiful. Unless you are going with plasma and walking him up the board, it seems that keeping back in a corner is best for the AA Dodo.

How are people using the new fancy lascannon?

With a shield generator as a tank busting support for infantry with invulnerable saves or as heavy anti flier guns with the rockets?

Im tempted to make mine lascannon and rockets. Brute force anti-armour with the lascannons and subtle anti armour with the rockets.

(took a few hull points of an earthshaker that thought cos it couldnt be seen it couldnt be shot at - thank you missile system!! ;-))

What would you guys say would be more efficient for taking down vehicles around the AV 11-12 range, the lascannons or the standard autocannons plus missile launchers? The players in my local meta love running those blasted storm eagles and my Contemptor-Mortis dreads (as much as I love them) don't seem to get enough done with the dual kheres. I feel as though the lascannons just by themselves might get more work done just due to str 10 and the 50% chance for another penetration.

Yeah, Exoshock is a nifty bonus. Against AV12 you're doing 0.27 Glances and 1.11 Pens with it. Add another 50% to that Pen (Exoshock on a 4+) and it might blow something up (especially with no Cover Saves on that extra Pen).

The Anvillus autocannon, through multiple shots and accuracy, does close to 1 Glance (0.97) and 2 Pens (1.95) without any other factors.

The Aiolos adds in another 0.42 Glances (to whatever weapon you choose). If they don't Jink, you have a very good chance to down a Fire Raptor/Storm Eagle with Aiolos and Anvillus autocannon battery. However, against targets that are guaranteed to Jink, like Dreadclaws, you have a better chance with the Arachnus lascannon battery.

That is not entirely accurate. The 'Shooting with Walkers' rules do not take into consideration a carapace/turret mounted weapon, only those on arms or other forward-mounting. There's nothing that states that a carapace-mounted weapon has a 360 degree arc of fire, unless you interpret 'carapace' as 'turret'. Following the rules as written in the book, the Aoilos would have the same arc as any other Dreadnought weapon. It's 'Independent Tracking' rules just say it can ignore obstacles to line of sight, not that it has a different kind of line of sight.

I feel this one is a bit open to interpretation and probably worthy of a quick email or FAQ entry. Imo, it could go either way, though it'd be nice if it could use what obviously seems to be a 360 degree traverse.
