1000 Sons
Does everyone make their drop pod doors open, is it that big a deal if the doors are glued shut ? In the rules the doors are just ignored, I think the only issue is blocking line of sight, but that can be solved easily if the model can see the pod, then it can see what is on the other side of it. Just curious how other people maybe deal with it, and if I can stop crying when I look at my dreadnought drop pod and just glue the thing together once and for all lol. Jarl of Wulfen
I glued all of mine shut. No one I've played has had a problem with it. It also makes transporting them easier. Slips
Save yourself the pain and suffering buddy, glue 'er shut. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4414396 Share on other sites
Hannibaal
Agreed. I glued the doors shut on my two most recent pods and ignoring the inside made painting so much faster and easier. If gluing them shut will make you feel better about working on pods, like it did for me, then turn that frown upside down, glue those doors shut and make yourself happy. Bloody Legionnaire
I don't glue mine shut but I have skipped out on harness' and consoles on a few of my drop pods. Definitely makes things easier and I play those as "dreadnought" drop pods. Charlo
I've even decided to keep (most of) my pods in pieces. The fins never want to stay in place and the base + doors are easy to cart around if you can just flatten them and pop them laid down in a deep back pack or something. The fins create a sort of claw that lets you place them around the door/ base piece too. I'm considering just putting magnets into all the fins all so that I essentially assemble them before each game, so that can be flat packed. Claw section can just rest on the base 99% of the time! -Signed: A man who took 7 pods on a 4 hour train journey into and out of London with about 6 changes and didn't have any breakages :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4414542 Share on other sites
Trevak Dal
I've started converting tang cans into drop pods. There are no doors on them of course. Master Antaeus
If you're concerned about the FAQ, You can leave the doors closed when you place the pod on the table. No one can force you to open the pod. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4415987 Share on other sites

Major_Gilbear
If you're worried about the gameplay issues of open/closed vs the convenience of gluing the model closed, the answer is very simple: 1) Make a neat plasticard template of the opened pod 2) Glue your pod model shut and paint it 3) When you play, put the pod down and simply slide the template under it when you "open" it. Easy! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4416224 Share on other sites
FabricatorGeneralMike
I've glued mine all shut. I just choose to ignore the new FAQ on them. It was obviously written by someone who has no clue on how 30k/40k plays. Canadian_F_H
If and when I every get pods I'll look into magnetizing them so they can open and close. I'm wondering if a magnet can be placed at the top and some bits of iron put on the tip of each door so it will hold closed... idk. Back in my day, drop pods were a rule that deployed your entire army by deepstriking, not actual models... lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4416994 Share on other sites
OrangeBob
I have never played a board that would accept a fully opened drop pod properly. This thread has me wondering if I should bother allowing my pods to open like a flower. Nah, just sounds like you're using the correct amount of terrain, which is more important IMO than whether the pod can open or not! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4417068 Share on other sites

Though I strongly recommend doing stuff like this before you paint them Although most of the doors on mine sorta click into place regardless of magnets, because the fit is rather snug at the top. But better safe than sorry. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323046-glueing-drop-pod-doors-closed/#findComment-4419069 Share on other sites
